Avengers: Age Of Ultron news round-up

The latest bunch of stories in and around Joss Whedon's The Avengers 2....

Filming continues in the UK for Joss Whedon and his team on their Avengers follow-up, Avengers: Age Of Ultron. And one or two bits and pieces have come to light. Hence, this round-up.

Firstly, it seems that Andy Serkis has landed a role in the film (to add to the one he picked up in Star Wars earlier in the year!). Whether it's a role that involves his motion capture work or not remains to be seen, it's just been revealed so far that he will turn up in Avengers: Age Of Ultron somewhere. He is also helping Mark Ruffalo with motion capture work on the film.

The main cast of Avengers: Age Of Ultron meanwhile are set to take the stage at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, at the end of July, reprising the moment when they were announced and united together at the same venue back in 2010.

Next up? It seems as though Harley Davidson has handed over its first ever electric motorcycle to the new film. It's going to be ridden by Black Widow in the movie. And you're right. We'd never mention that story unless we were doing a round up like this.

Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige meanwhile has admitted that he'd like to see an Avengers movie that crosses over with X-Men and Spider-Man, but "I don't think that'll happen anytime soon".

"Fox is doing very well – Days of Future Past just came out, was a big hit, and was a very, very good movie. As long as they keep doing that they’ll be able to keep those rights", he noted. "Sony - same thing - has very long term plans for Spidey". Feige refused to say that a crossover was impossible, but still unlikely.

Finally, as things stand, Italy is going to be the first to see Avengers: Age Of Ultron, with the film expected to debut on April 22nd 2015 there. It opens in the UK on the 24th, before arriving in the US on May 1st.

I still don't know why they can't do a crossover - are they such bitter enemies? Wouldn't a crossover flood both of the respective studios' wallets with money? Is it about creative control?

I think sharing the said vast amount of money would be the issue. Who gets how much of what? All I can smell is law suits and a film in limbo for years. Personally, I think they should shut up get on with it, but I'm a dreamer!

I imagine it's more a case of who gets what percentage...

I wish they would. I mean, either way they will each come out making a killing. Split it 50/50... simple. If they really cared about the franchise then they would do it purely for the fans, not the pay out. Though even if they could, I doubt they would be able to do it for a good 5 years. Get A3 out of the way and the next Xmen/Spidy films outta the way too.

I have been saying the same thing recently, surely a piece of the 'pie' is better than none at all. Not to mention the amount of interest there would be for a crossover of this scale!

re the Andy Serkis involvement

over the past dozen years he has been in two Lord Of The Rings films, one Hobbit film, King Kong, the rebooted POTA franchise, and now Avengers and Star Wars...has any actor anywhere over that time period managed such a high grossing CV. Answers on a postcard please

Because it doesn't make financial sense. Even if they shared the profits 50/50 the film would literally have to be the highest grossing film ever made by quite some margin to make more money for each party than making their own movies would.
Then there's all the legal stuff too. If they did do a crossover do Fox still own the rights? Who has creative control?
Why can't we just appreciate what we've got instead of continually wishing for something that will probably not happen for a very, very long time.

I was going to be facetious and say, "Donald Sinden"; but then another name occurred to me... Christopher Lee?

Yeah possibly, given his involvement in those unfeasably popular Tim Burton films, you know, the ones that suck!!! Good shout!

Small burst of Brit pride: Lee, McKellen, Stewart and Serkis.

just looked at Serkis, the numbers are phenomenal (had forgotten that he was in Tintin), astonishing that someone can carve such a niche out for themselves in Performance Capture, would be nice if possible if he could get a role in the Avatar sequels, deserves one given his pioneering status!!!

Well, if we all agreed to never watch a Sony Spider-man movie again, they would eventually cease making them. And then the rights would revert back.

You are correct. Although that would need quite the reverse marketing campaign.

But they already have a piece of the pie. They have their own pie in fact. Why would they want to share a pie for the 'possibility' of a bigger pie when they've got guaranteed big pie of their own?

I would estimate it would have to gross at least 3 times the amount of money The Avengers made to justify studios sharing production and distribution costs.. Which obviously isn't going to happen as that would be silly, silly money.

There is a limit to how much money a superhero movie can gross and we may be about to reach it.

Well, I'll do my bit.

As do I! I have NOT seen the new Spider-man movie in the theatre.

I couldn't agree more. People keep on talking about it like it's the obvious thing to do and everyone would come away with loads of money. But it's false.

In that case I'm doing my bit too. I've lost all interest in it.

I sadly did. Never again...

apparently Gary Oldman has the record for being in the top grossing movies like, Batman, Harry potter etc. although I wouldn't put money on it!

as much as it would be cool to see Spidey and the avengers, what you guys are saying is undoubtedly true.
Actually not having Spidey, X-Men and the Fantastic 4 has helped Marvel Films become what it is.

I don't see why they don't just do cameos in each others films for free on both sides. Total win-win for both studios.

I think the big crossovers will come when the bubble bursts.

For crying out loud i wish fans would stop banging on about the lack of Spidey and X Men in Avengers! Its not going to happen and it shouldnt happen. All three properties are doing fine as it is and should not be combined.Less is more.

"for free"

I'm sure someone mentioned that in a studio meeting somewhere, and were then fired and laughed out of the building.

I don't care how illogical it may be, I would still LOVE to see Spidey the Avengers, FF and X-Men team up for an epic 4-hour movie.

I'm banging on about the lack of Avengers in X-Men and Spidey movies.

We just need Thanos to open some portals in Avengers3 showing that the Fox universe and the Sony Universe exist (but as separate entities). This then allows a crossover somewhere down the line without creating any conflicts in the three ongoing Universes...
