James Spader's Ultron, some help for Tony Stark, and a slight hint of Captain Marvel in our round-up of the latest The Avengers 2 news...

Joss Whedon and his team are currently hard at work making the sequel to 2012's The Avengers, with Avengers: Age Of Ultron set to land in cinemas next year. A few new bits and bobs have popped up surrounding the project too, and so we've done a small round-up here.

Firstly, James Spader is set to play Ultron in the movie, and Marvel Studios' boss, Kevin Feige, has been chatting about him. "Our bad guy is great", he told Movies.com. "We love Ultron from the comics, and have always loved Ultron, and at no point do we want him to just be a robot. We want him to have an extreme personality and attitude, and James Spader is doing an unbelievable job". He added that "for us it's always about subverting expectations. Whenever you think you know what's coming next, we surprise people or deliver it in a slightly unexpected way. And Spader is doing that with Mr Ultron".

In the same interview, Feige also confirmed that the first unit shoot of The Avengers 2 would be commencing in "another week and a half". It's been mainly second unit work that's been done so far.

A recent addition to the Avengers: Age Of Ultron cast, meanwhile, is Kim Soo Hyun. The South Korean actress doesn't apparently have more than a small supporting role in the movie, but she's said herself now that "I am a doctor/scientist who is friends with Tony Stark". Make of that what you will.

And - why not? - how about ending with a wild rumour? Elmayimbe of Latino Review is suggesting that the character of Captain Marvel may be arriving on screen sooner than expected. Yesterday, we reported that Kevin Feige had admitted a Captain Marvel movie had been talked about. Elmayimbe is arguing that the character will appear in Avengers: Age Of Ultron. We'd take that with a pinch of salt for the minute, but you never know...

Avengers: Age Of Ultron will be released in the summer of 2015.
