First look at Paul Giamatti in The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Meet The Rhino (sort of), as on-set pics of Paul Giamatti in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 appear...

The mighty Paul Giamatti is hard at work, along with lots of other people, making The Amazing Spider-Man 2 right now. The film is being shot predominantly on location in New York, and as a result of that, keeping things under wraps is a game that, on the whole, the production isn't keen to play.

As such, we've now had a first proper look at Giamatti in character on the movie. He's playing Aleksei Mikhailovich Sytsevich in the film, with the alter ego of The Rhino. And thanks to some snaps that Giamatti posed for, and an official shot that director Marc Webb has Tweeted out, we can see, visually at least, how the character is shaping up. Here we go then...

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is out in May 2014 in the US, and comes out in April 2014 in the UK.

Scary... Uncle fester in a tracksuit!!!

I'll be missing the second installment of The Amazing Twilight...enjoy your film, kiddies.

Looks like he's from a dole queue in Manchester.

The Spider-man films are for the kids.

U vant Rassian Gangsta in ze movie? Put Gangsta in Adidas track suit. Very nice for you yes.

Fantastic observation. Apart from the fact that he's reading, albeit a comic.

Looks more like a Wino than a Rhino!

the first one was poo ..he still looks like a geek when he has the spidey suit on an I so wanted to love that film ,just another poor poor remake

I'll wait for the Bad Lip Reading of it on YouTube. Amazing Spider-Man's BLR was great. "I made no friends buying a spork"

And thus starts the zooming in on each tattoo and reading in as much as I can... Are those Chinese symbols on his knuckles? WHAT DO THEY MEAN?!

These look good. I didn't think Paul Giamatti was right for the role, but he looks pretty good to me.

He looks good lets hope they make him look bigger on him

in soviet russia comic book reads you

Ah, thank you. That comment made my Monday. (Gawd, what a pathetic day, eh?) :-)

he's not reading, just looking at the pictures

Sam Raimi's Spiderman, yes.

Look what fatherhood has done to Simon!

The first one was so horrible. That scene with the crane guy was the most laughably bad scene in a movie I've seen in years.

Rough translation - "I AM THE MANDARIN!"

No rhino suit - no rhino. This is just a picture of a big angry bald man.

Everything about the new Spiderman films is completely underwhelming.

How can anyone say the first film was bad? Either you're still annoyed by the fact Sam Raimi's gone along with Toby or you don't look at what's important.
The original trilogy, although was good, was completely wrong. MJ replacing Gwen. Having MJ steal one of the most iconic moments in comic book history (Gwen's death) and have her live. Having the Green Goblin be the main and Spidey's first antagonist only to carry a story arc throughout the entire trilogy. I loved the Sam Raimi films and I grew up with them. But in terms of writing, being faithful to the original comic books, great acting, then The Amazing Spider-Man is on top and one of the finest interpretations of the character to date. Cut some slack.

It's a children's character. But it's more of a family film. Not specifically children.

Not sure if you know this, but uh... the character of Peter Parker is a geek.
