It's official: Emilia Clarke is to play Sarah Connor in the next Terminator film...

UPDATE: It's now definite that Emilia Clarke has been cast as Sarah Connor in the the upcoming Terminator 5, which is currently working under the title Terminator: Genesis. Clarke is best known for Game Of Thrones, and Terminator: Genesis will reunite her with director Alan Taylor.

Here's the original story we ran...

A director for the new Terminator film still hasn't been officially confirmed, but Alan Taylor is all but assumed as the man who will be calling the shots on the new movie. Well, he and Arnold Schwarzenegger, who's returning to his biggest franchise once more.

Currently, casting is well underway for the new movie, set to be the first part of a trilogy. And the shortlist for the pivotal role of Sarah Connor is getting just a little shorter. The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that Tatiana Maslany, of Orphan Black fame, has now tested for the role. As has Emilia Clarke from Game Of Thrones, and Brie Larson, who has been earning rave reviews for Short Term 12.

Who's the outright frontrunner? Couldn't tell you. But the report says that Taylor and Schwarzenegger are keen to lock down who's playing Sarah Connor in Terminator 5 before finding the new John Connor and Kyle Reese. More as we hear it...

Why not cast Lena Headey as she already played Sarah Connor in the TV series?

Go for Linda Hamilton!

Jeff Goldblum!

be brave go for dot cotton

They're clearly going quite young for Sarah Connor, so I wonder where this fits in the continuity - or even if it does? Presumably it's between T1 and T2?

Katee Sackhoff

I think they should bring Anton Yelchin back from Terminator Salvation to be Kyle Reese to keep it in continuity. If they had to recast, Aaron Paul has my vote.

For the love of (insert name of favorite deyity), just leave it the funk alone!

I'm getting confused now is this terminator 5 or a remake :S

Just don't watch it. If you don't watch it, it will have absolutely no effect on you!

Frontrunners have emerged...? All you did was list actors who have tested.

this feels like it's going to be a bad idea.

It's sort of a sequel that won't deal with the previous sequels... Sort of a reboot too. It can be sort of a prequel too as they apparently want to go back further in time. So yeah it's still a bit confusing yet. I don't understand, why they don't do a sequel to Salvation, with Arnold.

Schwarzenegger can play a terminator sent back to 1994 but given wrong coordinates. When he appeared in 1994 he was trapped instantly in rock/mountain etc so connor then sent a 2nd copy to try again. With living tissue the '1st' copy would have aged over the years until eventually 'awoken' in the future and could then join future Connor as his elderly robot protector. This would get around the physical "age" issue and justify Arnie as a fully credible, but slightly creaky, older terminator. And when he breaks free in the future he could of course also rightfully utter "I said Id be back"!!

Tatiana sounds perfect , but could be very interesting to see how Brie does action other than paintball.
Leave the Khaleesi in Westeros unless she can bring her dragons and they also bring back Christan Bales character from T5 and merge him with his character form Reign of Fire.

As far as I am concerned Tatiana Maslany should play all the characters. Now that would make a great Terminator movie!

and it's fair to say they're the frontrunners, is it not? They're certainly way ahead of say, you or I, who haven't (yet) tested.

Time travel, bitch!

sorry, I still have Aaron Paul on the brain...

I totally agree! Plus with the CGI technology they can ake her look younger again.

People like you are the cancer of movies.

They're clearly going for a young Sarah Connor before she had a kid, not a middle-aged Sarah Connor with a teenage son.

They probably don't have an unlimited budget to CGI a lead in every scene.

First part of a trilogy. Just the one film then?!?

I still haven't watched salvation

cant wait to see aaron paul shout yo bitch at the terminator if he gets it

Its time travel, they could both be in it.

uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu ;-)

She's two years younger than Linda Hamilton was in T1 so... ...f*ck knows.

lol cgi = magic to some people

To quote the great Mr. Powers: 'Oh dear i've gone cross-eyed'

Watched it for the second time recently annnnnnnd ....... well it was slightly better than I remember. The story and most of the acting still suck major balls, but the action scenes are pretty damned good to be honest.
.
But the least said about THAT ending the better! Lord that was bad. I don't often laugh out loud at supposed serious bits in the cinema but that had me rolling in the aisles.

Whoever is in it?, it'll still be utter shite!!!

And yet Arnie is considerably older

I just couldn't picture her as Sarah Connor, but when I did a Google image search of her not in Daenerys Targaryen character, I can see it much clearer!

They should just steamroller the whole thing and start from scratch. No links to the old franchise, no links to Sarah Connor Chronicles.

There were some things I liked in all the movies, even if I hated some of the movies, the same goes for TSCC.

Including Arnold in this would be a big mistake. The best way for this series to go is a complete reboot, cut all ties to the past, and re-imagine it where needed.

A Google like entity could easily be the new Cyberdyne. You wouldn't even need a nuclear war. A Skynet like virus that shut down every major computer system on the planet would easily lead to a mass die off (kind of like NBC's Revolution...no power, generators are only going to last so long until they run out of fuel, and the refineries are going to be offline).

i'm ok with Emilia Clarke, another good choice would of been Lauren Cohan from Walking Dead
