William Fichtner talks Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

The man playing Shredder in the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, William Fichtner, has been chatting about the project...

William Fichtner is one of the finest characters working today, so his addition to the cast of the Platinum Dunes' Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie is a very welcome one indeed. The great man has recently been chatting about his role as chief antagonist Shredder in the project, revealing that "I actually play a guy called Eric Sachs in the movie, and then he goes through a few stages in his existence..."

So it looks as though they're moving away from the traditional depiction of Shredder then, with Sachs replacing Oroku Saki or simply a western re-imagining of the name. Fichtner continued, adding "Turtles is coming together very, very cool. There is a whole interesting dynamic that happens in the world of the Turtles and all I can really say about it at this point is that it's not like anything that I remember about the Turtles before".

The comments will no doubt lead to further concerns from fans, but, as always, it's still worth keeping an open mind.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is due for release in the US on June 6th 2014, but rather disappointingly a UK release is looking like it won't happen until August 2014. Bah.

A possible 2 month wait...well that sucks!

"William Fichtner is one of the finest characters working today"

I do believe that Fichtner is a real person, not just a character :-)

And yes I know you meant character actor.

his stint in TDK was epic as the bank manager very manical!

"All I can really say about it at this point is that it's not like anything that I remember about the Turtles before."

Why would I want to watch this then if it is nothing like TMNT?

Already, we can gather this is going in the wrong direction. As soon as Bay was mentioned we all knew what to expect.

I really think his small part was inspired casting. The role of the bank manager was crucial in setting up the idea of the Joker of being a character who was crazy enough to defy the entire criminal underclass and Fichtner absolutely delivered on that and his intensity completely sold us on the sheer lunacy of that bank job.
I also thought he was one of a couple good reasons to keep watching Prison Break as it lurched from season to season in a struggle to keep a fragile premise going on way past in natural shelf life.
I think we can all agree that no matter the quality of the movie that TMNT will have a stellar performance from Fichtner.

He could do a very good Joker i bet as well. Ofc it would be different from HL's but HL was a different take on the character that JN took.

I think this Shredder will be an American imposter and the TMNT will kick his ass at the end of the film. The credits will then reveal the real shredder in Japan and it will set up TMNT 2.

C'mon stop with the cliched internet hate on Bay and try doing something different: accept change. They might reimagine this film 100 times better that the original conception. Give it a chance. There's too many tosspots on the internet who poopoo films years before they even come out. There's some sort of weird internet sheep mentality going on that get's old when you see the exact same opinion all over the place.

Doesn't make sense does it - you'd think they'd be a worldwide release like most films now same day so if it is a stinker the hype won't hurt pre sale box office tickets
