Has work already begun on a Superman: Man Of Steel sequel?
As Man Of Steel continues to shoot, work is set to begin on the next Superman film, keeping Henry Cavill in blue tights for some time to come...
Most of you know the drill by now. Rather than waiting to measure the box office performance of a film before cracking on with a sequel, movie studios have worked out that they can hedge their bets by getting writing work on a new movie going before the first one is out.
Warner Bros did this successfully with Sherlock Holmes, for instance, and it’s help cut the time between films from three years to two. It also did it on Green Lantern, apparently, although there’s little physical sign of a Green Lantern 2 bursting into life anytime soon.
The studio, though, has confidence in its now-shooting new Superman movie, Man Of Steel, and wants to keep the momentum running. And it’s reportedly hunting for a writer to pen the next Superman instalment, post-Man Of Steel. It doesn't seem keen to hang around.
Amongst the candidates? Well, Lawrence Kasdan is apparently on the list. Kasdan’s work needs little introduction to most, with his screenwriting credits including The Empire Strikes Back, Raiders Of The Lost Ark and Return Of The Jedi. More recently, he apparently tackled some script work on the crappy Clash Of The Titans remake.
Kasdan, though, isn’t the running favourite for Man Of Steel 2. Instead, Harry Potter screenwriter Steve Kloves, a potentially in-demand man, is at the top of Warner Bros’ hitlist.
The story for Man Of Steel was arrived at by Christopher Nolan and David S Goyer, and it sounds like they’re less involved this time around.
Zack Snyder is currently directing Man Of Steel, anyway, and production continues until early next year. The movie is out in June 2013.
We’ll keep you posted on it, and on its sequel, too.
