Star Wars: Episode VII adds two to cast

News Simon Brew 2 Jun 2014 - 18:01

Lupita Nyong'o and Gwendoline Christie have joined the cast of JJ Abrams' Star Wars: Episode VII....

The casting process for the now-shooting Star Wars: Episode VII is clearly ongoing, as two more faces have joined the cast of JJ Abrams' film.

First up is the already-rumoured Lupita Nyong'o. She had been linked with the film previously, and earlier this year won an Oscar for her outstanding performance in Steve McQueen's 12 Years A Slave. She's now definitely on board.

Then, Brienne of Tarth herself, Game Of Thrones' Gwendoline Christie, has also been added to the line up. Their exact roles in the new film have not been confirmed.

Star Wars: Episode VII is out in cinemas on December 18th 2015.

Two women, one of whom is non-white, what will they find to complain about?

Lupita is a great actress and I hope she gets a good part. I'd love to see her as villain just so she could play away from her role in 12 Years as a Slave. Gwendoline, like most of the cast in Game of Thrones, is another fantastic actress, I could definitely see her as a world weary smuggler. Good castings.

How about "films need more plain looking women"?

This casting news along with those pictures of the set have made me excited again ^_^ It might be a bit of a see saw until I actually see the movie though.

i guess for g.c. it might have been an issue of scheduling which is why they announced it so late, they prob needed to sort it out round GoT filming scheduleand couldnt be sure until just now.

Now just give me tilda swinton as ventress and I'll be a happy man.

She's gonna be a Wookie

Where are the asian hermaphrodites!?!?!?! OMG this film is like soooo discriminative!!!

;D

Indeed, cue overly PC box-checking bitches!

I LOVE Gwendoline Christie . Very happy with her casting.

Brienne of......Darth?
Ahem. My 2 kids are massive Wizards Vs Aliens fans, and will be very happy with this news.

That she's not playing Lando's daughter?

Both are pretty amazing actresses, Lupita Nyong'o broke my heart in her scenes from 12 Years A Slave. Well done on casting these two. The entire cast, actually, has me really excited.

haaaaang on a minute...does this not sort of potentially spoil the aSoIaF(game of thrones) series of books? dont want to go into too much detail as want to avoid spoilers, but could this potentially clash with any filming she may or not need to do for future series?

I will only get exited if one of them is play mara jade

That's hilarious! Thanks, mate! XD
