Star Wars: Episode VII cast announced, first pic
It's official: the cast for Star Wars: Episode VII has been announced.
After lots and lots of speculation, we finally have something very, very concrete: the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII has just been announced.
According to a post at StarWars.com, "John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker".
Some of the new names had been speculated about before - the likes of Boyega, Driver and Isaac. But Andy Serkis, Domnhall Gleeson and Max von Sydow are intriguing additions. At the moment, we don't know what roles they'll be playing, and JJ Abrams isn't telling us. Could Serkis' involvement mean an improvement on Jar-Jar for a start? And Max von Sydow? Yes please.
What is clear is that, as had been widely expected, Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Leia, C-3PO and R2-D2 are back.
JJ Abrams, as part of the announcement, released a statement, saying "We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud".
An official pic of the cast has been posted too. Bloody comfy chairs...
