Reports suggest that Peter Mayhew is set to return as Chewbacca in the forthcoming Star Wars: Episode VII...

It's not long since we learned that JJ Abrams had successfully started production on Star Wars: Episode VII without a blast of media feedback - that is, until the story broke and began circulating all over the internet.

While we're still waiting for confirmation as to who will play the three new, fresh-faced leads in the film - or the sequel's official title, for that matter - we have learned that one familiar name could be joining the already-confirmed Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford.

According to The Hollywood Reporter's sources, that familiar name is none other than Peter Mayhew, who's said to be reprising his role of Chewbacca. The story hasn't been officially confirmed, but it's a pleasing one if true: Mayhew has sadly struggled with his health in recent years, and the Kickstarted documentary Standing In The Stars covered the efforts of surgeons to get him walking again. It would be great to see Mayhew back on his feet as Chewbacca for the first time since 2005's Revenge Of The Sith.

Surely they should follow current trend and recast with a female midget taking the role?

If Peter Mayhew is involved as Chewbacca then the casting-call for someone of Wookiee-height could be for a relative, or some other young Wookiee that becomes Chewie's successor of sorts. I have a feeling that the theme of this movie could very likely be about passing the torch to a new generation, so the cast of the original trilogy might have more limited supportive roles.

This movie is in serious need of some "real" news of its production.

I would love to see a moon fall on Chewie.
