Sir Ben Kingsley denies Star Wars audition
It looks like you can cross Sir Ben Kingsley off the Star Wars: Episode VII casting list...
There's no shortage of names currently being linked to JJ Abrams' Star Wars: Episode VII. So many, in fact, that we've pretty much had to stop reporting them, so spurious some of the stories seemed to be. At least when there's some form of official denial from the person involved, there's something fairly tangible to report.
Thus, Sir Ben Kingsley was recently chatting to Total Film, and the folks there asked him about the rumours that had linked him to an auditon for the film. "Oh what a shame that I wasn't awake during the audition", he said. "It's passed me by entirely - I have no recollection of it whatsoever! I do apologise to the producers and directors, but I'm afraid that I have no recall of this".
You can pretty safely rule Sir Ben out of the running, then. At least when the rumour mill surrounded Saoirse Ronan, there was actually an audition involved (although interestingly, even though she's been talking about her audition, nobody has said she hasn't got a role in the film yet...).
