Disney confirms "origin story" Star Wars films
It's definite: the non-trilogy Star Wars films that are coming will be origin stories...
Disney's chief financial officer, a man by the name of Jay Rasulo, is someone we'd imagine earns an awful lot of money. We also suspect that he has access to very special versions of Microsoft Excel that mere mortals can only have spreadsheet dreams about.
He's also, for the purposes of this story, someone who knows more about Disney's plans for Star Wars than most of us too, but he's been sharing some hints in a new chat with investors. Revealing that of "all of our worries, Star Wars is not one of them" (mildly Yoda-ish, that), he said that "the market is extremely hot for everything Star Wars".
At this point, we like to think he sipped on a fine liquor, patted down his exquisite suit, and continued.
He told the assembled throng that the main aim is to "put out a great film". But then he told us something that hadn't been confirmed. Whilst it's well known that the new Star Wars trilogy, Episodes VII, VIII and IX, will arrive in 2015, 2017 and 2019, what hadn't been so clear is the Star Wars films that Disney is lining up for 2016, 2018 and 2020. Well, according to Rasulo, they're going to be "origin story films".
This had been rumoured, of course, with the likes of Han Solo and Boba Fett suggested as candidates for origin movies. But while the exact subject of the movies remains unknown, we know that origin tales are the way Disney is moving forward.
More details when we get them....
