Benedict Cumberbatch linked to Star Wars: Episode VII
Could Benedict Cumberbatch be reunited with director JJ Abrams for Star Wars: Episode VII?
This one feels like it's a rumour that was almost inevitable. The omnipresence of Benedict Cumberbatch when it comes to movie casting at the moment meant that a rumour was almost bound to spring up linking him with the soon-to-shoot Star Wars: Episode VII. Furthermore, the fact that he's already teamed up with director JJ Abrams, on Star Trek Into Darkness, hardly lessens his chances.
We should be upfront here, and say that rumours of his being cast in the movie have apparently been denied by Disney. However, there's still an equal insistence that the Cumberbatch story is on the money. In fact, it seems that this might just be a rumour that people have sat on for some time, before finally posting the story.
We'll find out in due course, inevitably, but apparently, the specific role is one of a villain, probably a Sith, and it's a major part, that's set to run right throughout the new trilogy. This would explain too why Cumberbatch had to drop out of Guillermo del Toro's movie Crimson Peak, whose shoot crosses over with that of Star Wars: Episode VII.
We still await a formal casting announcement for Star Wars: Episode VII, although we'd imagine it's all going to come at once. For now, treat this as rumour, albeit one with a bit of noise behind it...
