Matthew Vaughn directing Star Wars: Episode VII?

It might just be that Matthew Vaughn is the man to bring the new Star Wars film to the big screen...

It could be possible that the quest to find a director to bring Star Wars: Episode VII to the screen is coming to an end.

We already know that Michael Arndt is working on the screenplay to the first film in a new trilogy (with Simon Kinberg and Lawrence Kasdan working on further screenplays for later episodes). But it seems as if it’s going to be Matthew Vaughn calling the shots on the movie.

Vaughn had been set to direct X-Men: Days Of Future Past, but dropped out of that project, apparently to do Secret Service with Mark Millar. As it turns out, it’s looking likely that it’s Star Wars that will be taking up his time.

Actor Jason Flemyng appears to have broken the news. He’s appeared in every Matthew Vaughn project to date, and in an interview with our chums at HeyUGuys, he not only said that he’s going to be in X-Men: Days Of Future Past, but it's also likely he'll do Star Wars, too. When asked about the film, he said “Me and Matt have done nine films together, so I’m sure I’ll get the call for Star Wars”.

When pressed as to whether Matthew Vaughn was interested in Star Wars, the actor backtracked slightly (although not much), but it appeared he’d already let the cat out of the bag.

More on this when we get it. You can find HeyUGuys here.

Excellent news!

Woops! Good news though!

Still not convinced - he's more likely just making a tongue-on-cheek comment in response to the rumours. The secrecy around the official director would be so tight that I doubt Vaughn would tell an actor (even if they are friends) , who are notoriously bad at keeping secrets.

Brilliant news. Excellent director!

Sounds like he was joking.

The giveaway will be if they find Flemyng's laser-riddled corpse after Lucas sends in the Stormtroopers to deal with him. Apparently, they're excellent marksmen....

Aaron Taylor-Johnson as a next generation Skywalker?

That's a pretty shaky assertion to make from just that comment. I'll believe it when it's official.

I hope Lucas is too busy counting his money to contribute anything toward the new trilogy...!

Hear hear!
