Tom Hardy is set to take the lead in the movie version of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell. And a new writer for the film has been hired...

The big screen take on the videogames of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell continues to edge forward. For some time, Tom Hardy has been attached to the project in the lead role, and more recently, director Doug Liman - the man behind the upcoming Tom Cruise blockbuster Edge Of Tomorrow - has signed up to direct.

There's still the need for some work on the script though, and as such, Sheldon Turner has been hired to pen a new draft of the film. Turner, whose credits include the Adam Sandler vehicle The Longest Yard remake and Up In The Air, will need to get cracking though: the plan is to finally get Splinter Cell before the cameras in August. That should point towards a release probably towards the end of 2015.
