Director Marc Webb confirms that he's moving on after The Amazing Spider-Man 3...

With the release of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 mere weeks away, director Marc Webb has been busy promoting the film and discussing plans for the future of the franchise. He confirmed - as had already been revealed - that he will return for The Amazing Spider-Man 3, which is due for release on June 10th. 2014. And now he's absolutely confirmed that he will not be directing The Amazing Spider-Man 4, which is due on May 4th 2018.

He told The Daily Beast that "I'd like to be involved as a consultant, and I've already talked to these guys about it, but in terms of directing it, that will close out my tenure. I've had so much fun doing it, but after the third movie, it'll be the time to find something else".

Webb went onto address the larger Spider cinematic universe being worked on at Sony, which will include Venom and Sinister Six spin offs: "We're building out a more complicated Spider-Man universe with characters that people haven't seen in other Spider-Man movies - The Sinister Six, Venom, and more. We'd all love to overlap with other studios, but it's beyond my pay grade,"

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set for release on April 18th in the UK.

What year is tASM 3 out?

Why is it that when they say Amazing Spider-Man 3, I hear The Spectacular Spider-Man 1?

Spider-man 3 this yr? or do you mean 2015 DoG?

Fair enough :) I wish him nothing but the best for his future - I'm guessing he'll go back to drama?

That's not a huge surprise - Webb's been saying he envisaged this as a trilogy for years. But I do wonder what Spider-Man 4 will be. New trilogy? Avengers-style capper to the villain-centric films? I wonder if Sony even knows.

fair dues you cant just doing the same type of movie, its good to broaden those horizons

Good grief... I don't care about this film yet, let's get 2 and 3 out of the way first :)

I can't wait to see a film about the "lager" Spiderman universe ;oP

Reboot in in 2020 with yet another re-telling of how Peter Parker becomes..........................Yawn.

"The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set for release on April 18th in the UK."

"The Amazing Spider-Man 3, which is due for release on June 10th. 2014."
That's a short gap between sequels!

Im still hoping they switch it up for Spider-man 4 maybe have Miles Morales take over or even Spider-man 2099.

Spider-Man vs Punisher in the larger universe... if they don't decide to reboot it.

Lager, lager, lager, spiders!

And let's hope it's more riveting than the first film.

It wasn't bad, just dull.

What will SM4 be? It'll be an ever decreasing in quality effort, the same as the rest of them, until the main actors get bored of being paid millions, or people stop watching the films.

Same as any franchise.

The beauty of the Avengers is that a rotating cast is built into the premise, which is perfect for big budget movies.

hustling to reboot so soon?
