Director Marc Webb reveals that he sees his Spider-Man films as a trilogy, whilst Andrew Garfield hasn't signed up for the fourth...

Earlier this year, Sony confirmed that it had plans to keep making Spider-Man films until right the way through until 2018 at the very least. As such, it announced both The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 4. That's on top of next year's The Amazing Spider-Man 2, of course.

In a new interview with Yahoo! however, the incumbent webslinger, Andrew Garfield, was asked about the next films. "I'm under contract for another one after this", he confirmed. "As far as a fourth one? That's not anything to do with me".

We suspect that's not quite the party line, and we wonder whether that means Garfield just needs to be made an offer for The Amazing Spider-Man 4, or if there's a chance that the suit needs to be passed to someone else. Ben Affleck might do it, just to wind the internet up a bit.

Meanwhile, director Marc Webb also threw doubt onto where the fourth film in the reboot saga stands, as he said that "we did think about these movies from the very beginning as a series of movies. Really a trilogy to be totally frank".

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 arrives in UK cinemas in April 2014. The Amazing Spider-Man 3 will reunite the team again in the summer of 2016. Where Sony goes for 2018's The Amazing Spider-Man 4 remains to be seen....
