Andrew Garfield not signed up for The Amazing Spider-Man 4

Director Marc Webb reveals that he sees his Spider-Man films as a trilogy, whilst Andrew Garfield hasn't signed up for the fourth...

Earlier this year, Sony confirmed that it had plans to keep making Spider-Man films until right the way through until 2018 at the very least. As such, it announced both The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 4. That's on top of next year's The Amazing Spider-Man 2, of course.

In a new interview with Yahoo! however, the incumbent webslinger, Andrew Garfield, was asked about the next films. "I'm under contract for another one after this", he confirmed. "As far as a fourth one? That's not anything to do with me".

We suspect that's not quite the party line, and we wonder whether that means Garfield just needs to be made an offer for The Amazing Spider-Man 4, or if there's a chance that the suit needs to be passed to someone else. Ben Affleck might do it, just to wind the internet up a bit.

Meanwhile, director Marc Webb also threw doubt onto where the fourth film in the reboot saga stands, as he said that "we did think about these movies from the very beginning as a series of movies. Really a trilogy to be totally frank".

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 arrives in UK cinemas in April 2014. The Amazing Spider-Man 3 will reunite the team again in the summer of 2016. Where Sony goes for 2018's The Amazing Spider-Man 4 remains to be seen....

Heard that 3 and 4 were rumoured to be a two-part movie a la Twilight, Mockingjay, Potter etc. Maybe its technically one film and that's what he and Webb were talking about only having 3 films?

If a new actor would be donning the suit after ASM 3, he better be under a contract with Marvel Studios.

They could follow the Ultimate Spider-man story kill off Peter Parker and replace him with Miles Morales, everyones just waiting for Gwen to die so it would be a great twist and a chance to freshen things up!

Or do say, ten films and then do the big Scarlet Spider reveal. That would be epic. :D

Rik Mayall should be Spider-man!

This story's been up for nearly three hours and no-one's suggested Andrew Scott or the Stath? For shame, DoG - for shame.

To be honest I think that would work quite well. They could have it so the next couple of films does lead into the sinister six and the 3rd film could end with a cliff hanger and the 4th picks up directly after it.....would be great to see that I think.

I love Miles Morales if he was to become Spidey I would be so excited.

It would be cool

they'll do another reboot

"Ben Affleck might do it, just to wind the internet up a bit."

Hah, nice!

It has become a cliché hasn't it

How about Karl Urban?

What nationality is he? Who could play him? Does he speak Spanish? How much is his family involved? Will the Spanish versions of uncle Ben and aunt may come off as authentic or cheesy? Who else suddenly wants Mexican food? You know who should play him? Me. I'm not the only black Cuban, but I'm certainly the nerdiest one.

This ^^

yup,SONY will just keep going to keep the rights from going back to Marvel,'The Spectacular Spider-Man'..Parts 1,2 and 3,'The Ultimate Spider-Man' 1,2 and 3 ..etc etc,you see where i am going with this

F*ck yeah! And have Donald Glover play him!

Josh Brolin clearly has to be cast in this role!

Bring back Tobey Maguire in the forth one......or do a SHATTERED DIMENSIONS spidey film with both andrew and tobey!

If a new actor takes on the role, I've got my fingers crossed (yet again) for Donald Glover.
