Dane DeHaan on The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Recently cast as Harry Osborn, Dane DeHaan has been chatting about his role in The Amazing Spider-Man 2...

Dane DeHaan is an excellent young actor, and this was demonstrated in a couple of key roles last year - most notably in Chronicle, but he was also very impressive in Lawless. He has, of course, been cast as Harry Osborn in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Whilst doing promotion for his new film, The Place Beyond The Pines, he's been chatting about the role of Osborn.

Chronicle was about a kid with an abusive father, Place Beyond The Pines is about a kid who doesn't know who his father is, and they're very different relationships. Obviously with Harry Osborn, the privilege of it is another dynamic. Every son has a relationship with their father, whether their father is there or not, and that always has an effect on the person, whether they admit it or not. There are a lot of different ways that those relationships are complicated.”

He then went on to discuss the fact that he's not a major comic guy, touching on the homework he's doing to prepare for the role:

“I don't think you have to be a fan of something to do the job. I think ultimately it's important that I'm familiar with past takes on the Osborn story ... My job as an actor is the same job whether it's a comic book movie or a gritty Derek Cianfrance drama, or a Chronicle, or a Lawless, which is to take a character and, for want of a better word, breathe life into it. I'm a fan of acting.”

It's an honest interview he gave, and it's kind of refreshing for an actor not to just claim to be a fan of something to get people on board. We're looking forward to seeing just what he can do with the role of Harry Osborn.

He's going to make an excellent Harry Osborn and he's looking like a good actor for the future.

This dude was so good on chronicle and will make a good replacement for James Franco, who's best performance to me was 127 hours. I have yet to watch the amazing Spider-Man. One of these days I'll just buy it for my 7 year old and watch it, since he's not bitter about reboots and junk, but honestly the sequel, particularly because of the news of Normsn Osborn, is shaping up to be something possibly quite good. If they cross over to avengers and do civil war, then, maybe then, I'll shut up about it. Aw man, just the thought of the thunderbolts and dark avengers, ok I'm done
