Spawn movie reboot will be "hard R"
Todd McFarlane confirms that he's penned the script for a new Spawn movie, and he's dropped some new details about it...
Well, this is refreshing. Days after the R-rated Deadpool movie hit big - and then some - at the box office, it seems that Hollywood's interest in harder comic book movies has been reignited.
For some time, a movie reboot of Spawn has been in the works, with its creator Todd McFarlane working on a screenplay for it. It'd be fair to say that the original Spawn isn't much of a loved feature, but enough time has passed to start over. Although, to be fair, on current Hollywood schedules, a few years is deemed enough time.
McFarlane has been chatting to ComicBook.com about the current state of the project, and he's confirmed that's finished the script to the new Spawn. He's also said it'll be a "hard R".
"I’d put it more into the horror/suspense/supernatural genre", McFarlane said. "If you take the movie The Departed meets Paranormal Activity, something like that…In the background, there’s this thing moving around, this boogeyman. That boogeyman just happens to be something that you and I, intellectually, know is Spawn. Will he look like he did in the first movie? No. Will he have a supervillain he fights? No. He’s going to be the specter, the ghost".
He added too that "I want to keep it small, keep it tight, so they'll let me direct it".
When we hear more, we'll pass the information on...
