Shooting will start this side of Christmas on Robert Rodriguez's Sin City: A Dame To Kill For...

Robert Rodriguez is currently in post-production on his new film, Machete Kills, and as soon as he's done with that, he's finally going to roll cameras on the long-awaited Sin City follow-up, Sin City: A Dame To Kill For.

The new Sin City film is set for release on October 4th 2013, and Rosario Dawson, who's appearing in it (reprising the role of Gail), has been chatting to MTV about the movie.

Firstly, when it's going to start shooting? "I'm not sure if I'm supposed to say that, but I'm going to say November, I'm going to be honest and put it out there", she said.

But secondly, where does it sit in relation to the first film? "It's sort of a prequel to the Sin City we've already watched, so you'll understand the references we were making in that one," she said. "The new face thing [she's talking about the character of Dwight here], all of that interesting stuff".

More on Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, and Machete Kills, when we get it. In the meantime, the full MTV piece is here.

Prequels! Why do people make prequels? It automatically alienates a large chunk of your audience who think "what's the point, we know how this ends".
Name me one prequel that is better than the original? It's human nature to want to know what happens next.
There is a massive scope of material here to play with, if they make a prequel it limits where they can go if another movie gets green lit!?

they're making a prequel because the source material was a prequel. fair enough really.

just hope they turn down the incessant voiceover on this one. loved the first visually but by the umpteenth repetition of the same line i just wanted to watch a silent version.

Well considering the first film didn't play out in a chronological order, its was just a selection of 3 different stories taken from . A dame to Kill for kind of takes place around the same time as some of the stories that take place in the first film. You see Marv sitting in the bar drooling over Nancy that'll probably be the only link between the two. I wouldn't go a far to taint it by labelling it as a prequel.

Should be good :)

Since the first was IMHO a work of genius i cant wait for the new one. Elijah Woods character was evil

So who's playing Ava?
