A first image arrives for Seth MacFarlane's next comedy, A Million Ways To Die In The West...

Family Guy and American Dad creator Seth MacFarlane successfully made the leap to feature directing with 2012's comedy Ted, a hit which eventually went on to make more than $500m at the box office.

MacFarlane's next film will be A Million Ways To Die In The West, a comedy western with a starry cast and the director/animator/screenwriter/comedian himself in the lead. That he's managed to assemble the support of actors such as Charlize Theron, Amanda Seyfried, Liam Neeson and Sarah Silverman is evidence of MacFarlane's rising Hollywood status following Ted's success - and westerns aren't necessarily easy projects to get off the ground in Tinseltown these days at any rate, unless your name happens to be Quentin Tarantino, the Coen brothers or Gore Verbinski.

A Million Ways is about a "cowardly sheep farmer" who loses his girlfriend after refusing to go through with a potentially fatal gunfight. But when he meets a new lady, her even more dangerous husband leaves the farmer's life in danger once again.

You can see the first image from the production below, which sees Neil Patrick Harris sporting a luxurious moustache, and an oddly eyebrow-less Charlize Theron looking pensively at Seth MacFarlane's nose.

We can't help wondering whether the make-up department took Theron's eyebrows and applied them to Harris' bottom lip, but that's probably just the lack of caffeine affecting our addled minds.

A Million Ways To Die In The West opens on the 6th June in the UK.
