A first glimpse of Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson, in the story of Mary Poppins creator P L Travers...

Tom Hanks has a couple of really, really interesting looking movies in the works. This October, we get Captain Phillips, based on the true story of the captain of the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in 200 years. Paul Greengrass is directing that one, and already the film has the stench of Oscar to it.

But then there's Saving Mr Banks, a film about P L Travers, the author of Mary Poppins. Emma Thompson is playing Travers in the movie, and Hanks is taking on the role of Walt Disney. The two, it's fair to say, didn't have the easiest of relationships, and the film is going to explore that.

A first photo from the film has now been released, which shows the pair of them in character. The movie itself is being directed by John Lee Hancock, who helped steer Sandra Bullock to an Oscar with The Blind Side. And it's due for release in December in the US, and January in the UK.

Don't be surprised if there's a trailer soon. In the meantime, here's that first picture...
