Could Marvel's Runaways movie still happen?
Iron Man 3 scribe Drew Pearce hopes that Marvel will resurrect Runaways for phase three...
One of the projects that was once talked about as a potential Marvel movie was Brian K Vaughan's Runaways, which follows a bunch of teenage kids who find out that their parents just happen to be supervillains. The script for the film was being penned by Drew Pearce, who went on to take on screenplay duties for Iron Man 3. And it's following an Iron Man 3 screening that Pearce did a Q&A for at the Los Angeles Film School where the subject of Runaways came up.
"We were really close to being made", he said, "and then this movie started to happen called The Avengers". And The Avengers was ultimately responsible for Runaways heading back to limbo. "Oddly, it pulled focus away from the unheard-of brand Runaways, and it really did consume the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It's there - maybe it'll be a Phase Three movie. I really hope so, I'm really proud of it, and I think it'll be a brilliant film", Pearce said.
Sadly, it sounds like a bit of a long shot this one, not least because Marvel's phase three seems to be more leaning towards Doctor Strange, and may need to accomodate further sequels to Thor and Captain America, as well as a Guardians Of The Galaxy 2.
