Police Academy: the reboot
Simon Brew
A new bunch of cadets are set to join the Police Academy, as plans for a reboot emerge…

As you know, we pride ourselves on being, er, the first to bring you all the latest movie news and views. We're at the cutting edge, standing on the front lines to make sure we bring stories to you as fast as humanly possible. There is no possible way that any story of note could possible slip through our fingers, in our endless quest to serve you.
Meanwhile, back on Earth, we're still staggered that we let this one slip under our radar. For it seems that, as has long been mooted, the Police Academy saga is to get a reboot. The kind of reboot, it seems, that chucks out all of the original cast in the process.
The news actually broke at the end of last week, although, obviously, we don't want you to know that and think us inefficient. The Hollywood Reporter noted that the original producer of the seven films, Paul Maslansky, is back on board, although no writer or director has thus far been announced.
New Line is behind the reboot (a division of Warner Bros, of course), as it is with the planned follow-up to National Lampoon's Vacation. And Maslansky is quoted as saying the following:
"It's going to be a new class. We hope to discover new talent and season it with great comedians. It'll be anything but another movie with a numeral next to it. And we'll most probably retain the wonderful musical theme."
It'll be anything but another movie with a numeral next to it? Crikey, the man has a sense of humour.
We suspect that some of the original recruits may be dragged back for cameos, but that's not been confirmed. Rest assured, though, that we'll clearly be the first to break the news...
