First image arrives from Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim

The finished movie's still a while away yet, but the first image from Guillermo del Toro's next movie, Pacific Rim, is here...

We don't yet know an awful lot about Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim, other than that it has a slightly unfortunate title, and it's got giant robots in it. And as this first image to arrive from the set of the movie reminds us, it's got Idris Elba in it, too. He's looking rather fetching in his metal outfit, and looks for all the world like a chum of Tony Stark.

Is this what the film's characters have to wear while they pilot their giant robots? If so, we may be in for a big-budget version of the 90s straight-to-video classic, Robot Jox. Now wouldn't that be something?

Pacific Rim's out on the 12th July 2013.

Are we sure this isn't a screen shot from a fan-made Mass Effect movie? that armour looks familiar.

That sure doesn't look real. We sure this isn't fanmade?

He could pass for an agent from the videogame Crackdown. Wasn't that set in in the fictional 'Pacific City'? Hmmm...

Well you're not alone.  I love Robot Jox too.  It's one of my favourite B movies right alongside Megaforce.

This movie still sounds like a tropical island-themed porno.

Unfortunate title?

Because it contains the word rim which can mean to lick another person's behind?

You need to watch less adult films Den of Geek.

If nothing else, the film will be visually appealing. Can we please have a different title though (Avengers style)?

It's too naff to be fan made.

Idris Elba could have made a great James Rhodes/War Machine.

Been avoiding this because I thought it sounded like a big budget American romantic drama...

Is that Hudzen 10 from Red Dwarf?

Agree 100% it punched above its weight. Which is what good low budget flicks should do.

Since everyone has been so admirably restrained in mentioning it, can I just say that even though i'm really looking forward to this, the fact that Del Toro has withdrawn from Mountains of Madness, because of that Prometheus clusterfuck, is EXTREMELY aggravating...
