National Lampoon's Vacation reboot finally going ahead

National Lampoon's Vacation

Ed Helms will lead the reboot of the Vacation movie series, with help from a Chevy Chase cameo...

For a while, it seemed as though the reboot of the National Lampoon's Vacation series was all set to press ahead, with John Francis Daley and Jonathan M Goldstein set to direct from their own screenplay (they also penned Horrible Bosses). Then a delay, for undisclosed reasons, hit, and the project seemed to be on the back burner.

Well, we now learn that it's going ahead again, and the plan is to film before the year is out. Ed Helms and Christina Applegate are set to take the lead roles this time, taking their two sons to 'Astroland' on vacation. The two kids will be, it seems, a nerdy 15-year old and a bullying 11 or 12-year old.

We're promised lots of throwbacks to the original, with both Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo set to appear in cameo roles. The film is to be more belated sequel than remake, we understand.

If it heads into production this year, as planned, then there should be time to turn this new Vacation around by the end of 2015.

So Ed Helms is doing this an the Naked Gun? >sheesh<

Give me Chevy or give me death! I know Clark Griswold, and you sir, are no Clark Griswold.

Wasn't convinced about this because I LOVE the original Vacation movies. However, I can see a lot of Chevy Chase in Ed Helms and Applegate is always great value so im up for this now. Would love to see some strong cameo's from comedy greats like Ferrell, Galifanakis, etc.

Belated sequel. Okay by me

Another reboot? Is originality dead?

Time to ruin another classic, I see...

So whats next on the screw up a movie that cant be made better list, Fast Times?

It's not a reboot people, Helms was reported to play Rusty, so if anything, this is a belated sequel.

Surely Chevy is still Clark, this time a granddad. he should be more than a cameo, could have good comedy with Granddad Clark being a no it all telling Rusty how it should be done

Watched National lampoons vacation this weekend. Still a classic film and i found my self laughing out loud at it.

Ed Helms? Meh!

Surely Anthony Michael Hall or Johnny Galecki would have been up for it. (and to a lesser extent Jason Lively)

Why? Why? WHY?!

Don't say things like that it's like a challenge to Hollywood and Fast Times needs to remain safe

So if this movie does well, do we then get the European Vacation re-quel with a Christina Applegate shower scene? If watching Ed Helms beimg a berk for an hour and a half means my teenage fantasy could come true, then I'm all for this movie...

Like someone telling you how to spell "know-it-all"? :):) Let me buy you a pint.

Too bad John candy is dead. Would have been great to have had him as head of security at "Astroland." I wonder if Christie Brinkley will make another cameo driving by? All together now "Holiday Road....oh oh oh..." www.youtube(dot)com/watch?v=_nLiQBV6A7c

Unless they do a sequel with Spicoli working at a seniors home.. Could be called "Slow Times at Ridgemont Home." :)

that is a horrendous spelling mistake, on my part :-)

Ewwww...Ed Helms...I'll have crab juice.
