The long-mooted sequel to Mrs Doubtfire is happening, with both Robin Williams and director Chris Columbus returning...

Just last week, we ran a piece looking at the new Hollywood trend of belated sequels to popular films. If we've have just held fire a little longer, it seems that we could have added Mrs Doubtfire 2 to the list.

Work is now underway on a follow-up to the 1993 smash hit, and Robin Williams is attached to reprise one of his most popular roles. Furthermore, director Chris Columbus is set to return as well.

Mrs Doubtfire 2 is being penned by David Berenbaum, who wrote the script for Elf. And whilst chat about a new Mrs Doubtfire film has appeared before - a previous attempt fizzled out just over a decade ago - this seems to be the first time that Robin Williams and Chris Columbus have warmed to the idea.

Columbus is set to make Pixels, with Adam Sandler, as his next project. But it might just be that Mrs Doubtfire 2 follows.
