Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol

Could the director of Jack Reacher, Christopher McQuarrie, be set for Mission: Impossible 5?

The last entry in the Mission: Impossible franchise, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, isn’t just the one that’s taken the most money at the box office. It’s also the Tom Cruise film that’s taken the most money at the box office. Cruise has recently said, in Total Film if memory serves, that he’s keen to keep making the films, and unsurprisingly, a fifth Mission: Impossible movie appears to be being fast-tracked.

So far, each instalment in the franchise has had a different director. Thus, there’s been Brian De Palma, John Woo, JJ Abrams and, most recently, Brad Bird.

For the fifth movie? Well, apparently the top choice is Christopher McQuarrie. McQuarrie has finished up duties on the forthcoming Tom Cruise Lee Child adaptation, Jack Reacher (due in cinemas next month), and before that, he directed the sorely underappreciated The Way Of The Gun. McQuarrie also has an Oscar to his name, for his The Usual Suspects script.

At the very least, perhaps we should take from this that Paramount and Tom Cruise are happy with McQuarrie’s work on the incoming Jack Reacher. When we hear more about Mission: Impossible 5, we’ll let you know…
