Michael Bay wants to direct a self-financed horror film
According to a new report, frantic action maestro Michael Bay has a "great fantasy" about directing his own horror movie...
Ever since 1995's Bad Boys, Michael Bay has repeatedly aligned himself with big, glossy Hollywood entertainments like Armageddon and the Transformers franchise. But those features aside, he's long had a second string to his bow: remaking classic horror flicks through his production company Platinum Dunes.
The remakes of A Nightmare On Elm Street, Friday The 13th and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre have proved to be reliable money-spinners over the past decade, even if they haven't exactly been warmly received by fans of the originals or critics in general.
But as the website Shock Till You Drop noticed, an article recently published by The Hollywood Reporter about Hollywood filmmakers and their effect on the horror genre sees Michael Bay professing his love for classics like The Exorcist and The Shining. "These are movies that stand the test of time," he enthused.
Mr Bay then went further, stating that he has a "great fantasy" of not merely producing horror films through Platinum Dunes, but actually directing a horror picture of his own - and he even states that he will probably make this "a reality".
“I have a great fantasy — that I will probably make a reality — of directing my own self-financed horror movie,” Bay said.
Certainly, this year's Pain & Gain represented a step away from the more expensive, effects-driven fare he's been associated with in the past, so a Bay-directed horror film may happen sooner rather than later - and we have to say, we'd be extremely intrigued to see what he'd come up with.
Besides, Bay may have a greater affinity for the genre than his glossy, explosion-filled action pictures suggest - Pain & Gain contains some quite intense and gory moments, and even 12 years later, we still can't watch Pearl Harbor all the way through without screaming.
