Kevin Feige on Marvel Studios future plans
It would appear that Marvel Studios plans extend to the next decade
Phase Two of Marvel's cinematic universe is underway now and for some time we've known of the studio's broad intentions for phase three. Beyond that point its plans have been a little unclear, as you might expect. Plus there's the question as to would there still be the sizeable market for the superhero movies witnessed currently by that point? Or would tastes have changed to the point where audiences were wanting something more?
Well, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has been chatting about how far into the future they're planning. And there are a lot more films to come. "I could arguably say that we're planning for the year 2021. Will that happen? I don't know. But what we planned for 2015 in 2006 is happening", he told Wired.
Feige went on to say that "five years ago, looking at our plan, we knew that if Avengers was going to work, the movies had to stand alone. Now we have to prove to the studios that we're more than just these five characters, these five franchises".
Marvel certainly has the characters at its disposal to continue producing films at the rate it's been doing well into the 2020s, so it will be interesting to see what characters it will use and what comic book runs it will draw from...
