Close friend of writer/director James Gunn, Michael Rooker, has expressed an interesting in a role in Guardians of the Galaxy

Michael Rooker is a fine character actor and one whose physical stature makes him an imposing screen presence. He's also worked with James Gunn previously and seemingly has a good relationship with the director. With Gunn recently landing the job of directing Guardians Of The Galaxy for Marvel, Rooker has decided to nominate himself for a part in the film.

He's done this firstly by addressing what part he's interested in: “All of them, I'd play the raccoon guy. I'd play the tree guy. They're all very cool characters! But, I don't know. Marvel and Gunn have their own thing going on. It's very secretive.”

He continued: “But we're still friends, so we hang out and talk. Whenever I'm in town, we get together. So, I know he's busy and working real hard on the rewrite and getting everything set to go. It's always a pleasure to work with him, so what happens, happens.”

He concluded the interview by commenting on Gunn's loyalty to his actors and friends: “Gunn is always thinking of his friends and the people that he's worked with, he's quite a loyal director and he's a good friend as well. He's always, 'Well, maybe Rooker can do this one. I think he'd like to do this.' I'm sure he's thought of me so we'll see.”

It will be interesting to see how the cast shapes up for Guardians Of The Galaxy as Gunn has worked with a nice mixture of genuine stars and cult favourites throughout his career, yet there's always a sense that the actor is absolutely right for the role they've been cast in.

Rooker as Drax? Seems a natural fit to me.

I think so. He's a bit too old looking to be Adam Warlock. He could make a good Star-Lord as well.
