Robert Rodriguez's Machete follow up, Machete Kills, is set to hit cinemas in September...

As director Robert Rodriguez starts to turn his attention to Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, he's put the finishing touches to his Machete sequel, Machete Kills, and release details have finally been announced.

The movie is set to arrive in cinemas, in the US at least, on September 13th 2013, with Danny Trejo reprising the title role. Joining him in the cast are Jessica Alba, Charlie Sheen, Michelle Rodriguez, Antonio Banderas, Mel Gibson and Lady Gaga.

Whilst the original Machete had its moments, we're hoping that Machete Kills is a tighter movie. Not least because if this one works, then the third film is set to take Machete to space. We'd like to see that.

First one was a terrible movie throughout , an empty dull attempt of being clever at making a "good bad movie". Didn't work, it sucks from whatever angle you wan to see it.

Get off your high horse. Terrible movie? It was enjoyable for what it was - a throw back cheesy action movie. You should stick to art house films and Oscar fodder and not bother looking at articles about "terrible" movies like Machete.

Machete don't text

Why are you interpreting all kinds of views and attitudes into him? High horse? Art house films? Oscar fodder? He just said the movie didn't work for him, where are you getting all this stuff from, Sir internet warrior?

And he's right nevertheless. Machete had the potential to be something great, just look at how masterfully Robert handled 'Planet Terror' - now that's real Grind-fucking-house! Great blood and gore, babes, kick-ass dialogue, novelty factors - but above all, it had structure, a flowing narrative, a proper storyline. Machete was just all over the place and YEAH MAN LETS CAST LINDSAY LOHAN OH WE SO CRAZY.

I hope Machete 2 improves upon that, but so far, it looks good.
