First trailer for Luc Besson's Lucy, with Scarlett Johansson

Trailer Simon Brew 3 Apr 2014 - 07:28

Scarlett Johansson stars in Lucy, the new sci-fi movie from Luc Besson. Here's the first trailer...

Scarlett Johansson continues to do her bit for big screen science fiction with her next movie, Lucy. Directed by Luc Besson, she stars here as a woman who finds herself working as a drug mule - only for the drug she's carrying inside her turn her into some kind of super human. An action-thriller ensues, that sees Besson too back in the land of sci-fi.

Morgan Freeman co-stars in the movie, and the first trailer for it has now been released, which you can see below. The film has a US release date of August 8th, and we're expecting it in the UK on August 22nd.

"lower tummy"

That looked quite low key for a Luc Bresson movie, but very stylish. But the old "not utilising 100% of the brain" bobbins....again? It's a personal thing but that trope being wheeled out when wanting to show someone developing is really starting to annoy me now.

"Lower tummy" made me laugh too...

Yeah... Couldn't help but think it's like a Sci Fi/Action sequel to Limitless. Still looks good though.

Scarlett certainly makes my "Lower Tummy" feel funny ;-) ,and she's doing some good work lately.

Didn't Besson retire from directing?

Glad he changed his mind.

I'm not a big fan of blockbusters but this one actually got me quite excited. I might just go see this one. Luc Besson's flick's usually aren't top quality but they do tend to be very entertaining.

Looks really good. This looks like it will fill the missed potential of certain parts of Limitless, a film I really enjoyed but felt like it ended a bit too soon.

She shot taxi driver who didn't spoke english. the premise is bit similar to Limitles. I smell trouble

I came here to say exactly the same thing. We use 100% of our brain, but not all at the same time.
Hollywood execs, however, 10% is about right I reckon!

Hollywood?

You've just made a whole bunch of french film execs spit out their baguettes in anger!

Hmmmm..... NO!

Erm - isn't this just Limitless with boobs?

Fair comment Tonya. Still true though. :-)

No, he went off making kids movies (Arthur and the Invisibles et al). Good to see him back in the real world though.

"Luc Besson's flick's usually aren't top quality" I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion but are you trolling or just plain daft??

I couldn't concentrate on 3/4 of that, because my brain was stuck going "Was that ACTUALLY Julian Rhind-Tutt?"

Colour me interested. Although I see yet another movie trailer using the Inception, "Donnnggg.' :-)

Oh, this looks nice. Didn't know they where making a Limitless sequel.

I saw the trailer last night so I may be wrong but I don't think they were referring to only using 10% of the brain but rather using only 10% of the brains capability. which sounds more realistic... I think, I don't know, I'm stupid.

People want to watch this because she shows muff. Let's be honest.

I'm being cincere. (if I'm trolling you'll know it) I didn't mean it in a bad way by the way I do like most Luc Besson films but except Leon they're usually just very entertaining and nothing more. I wouldn't consider any of them true masterpieces. I do have to admit though that I haven't seen all of his films. I thought Leon was really good, The Fifth Element was a hoot, Nikita was plain fun and Joan of Arc was alright but nothing special. Les Aventures d'Adele Blanc-Sec I hate with a passion because he ruinned one of my favourite comic book series with that awful adapation. I think that one would've been a lot better had it been directed by Jeunet. A director who, in my opinion, usually does deliver top quality stuff.

Trailer looked good, but I'm not sure I can watch a film that suffers major reality burps before it's even finished giving you the tagline...

Also, I hope that the other superpowers she seem to have aren't explained as 'because of extra brain power', because that's so dumb it'd make the (excellent, but exceptionally dumb) Fifth Element look like 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Bit harsh. I have said before I don't like Luc Besson movies *ducks*. However i'm willing to have a punt on this one

Or how about; "I wish Scarlett would let me insert my package in her lower tummy". Sorry, sorry..

Looks a bit like a mix of Limitless and Transcendence... and it's directed by Luc Besson and features Scarlett Johansson, I'm in!

I concur. Suspension of reality is fine, for pure Sci-Fi.
When a movie has a basis in our world, I can swallow a bit of daftness, but not when reaching 100% brain utilization means bending time and reality.

Can they not just make Akira?

10% capacity is also bullshit. We use 100% capacity.

I was thinking the EXACT same thing.
It does start with the same letter (Limitless - Lucy) and sequels usually go bigger and more extravagant than the original.

...and the worst part: Even Scarlet's boobs can't save it this time. :(

Don't be daft man. Scarlett's boobs can save anything.

Interesting. It's like Limitless meets Maria Full of Grace.

BWAAAAAAAARRRRMMMMM!!!!

Female lead, awesome actress, fun director, interesting concept (i'm not fussed about "sense" in movies - if you are, get thee to a different genre... like documentaries?), imax sized - this is my dream come true movie for the year x

but is it really not out till Aug 8? Or Aug 22? How come Spain get it on July 25? This all seems hideously unfair! :)
