Fresh details on Leprechaun reboot

Studio boss promises Leprechaun reboot will be a "darker, more traditional horror" than people remember...

It's been almost a year since news of WWE/Lionsgate's planned Leprechaun franchise reboot reached us, and the idea is still going strong according to a new interview with WWE Studios President Michael Luisi.

Speaking to CraveOnline, Luisi confirmed that the project was still pushing ahead and that Lephrechaun fans can expect the new film's tone to be "a little darker, a little more traditional horror than the Warwick Davis ones that people remember." Seeing as the last in the Davis-starring franchise was the firmly tongue-in-cheek straight-to-video release Leprechaun: Back 2 tha Hood, getting darker and scarier won't be too hard we'd have imagined.

The reboot, which goes by the name of Leprechaun: Origins we're told, won't connect with the previous franchise mythology, and will star WWE's Dylan Postl as lead Lubdan, though a cameo from original star Warwick Davis is apparently not out of the question. Whether Davis, whose TV career has had a resurgence here in the UK of late, will be interested in revisiting the franchise that dominated his nineties movie work, is another matter...

To the extent that they work at all, the "Leprechaun" movies work bevause they don't take themselves too seriously.

In the name of God, WHY??

bloody hornswoggle

I never saw the one from the nineties. I always assumed that it was like Troll 2 - so bad that it's good. I'm don'tthe casting of hornswoggle will be a good idea. If they want to be taking seriously why not get Jordan Prentice or Peter Dinklage.

Back then I could at least watch em knowing I was gonna be entertained by stupid crap. Like Freddy, but way dumber. But this whole serious remake thing is gettin old. Like with Freddy. I don't even count new incarnations, not if they suck. But man morons like platinum dunes, rob zombie, and wwe are making some awful, awful remakes. And originals

I really can't imagine Dinklage agreeing to such a role. He's been lucky/skilled enough to get roles that aren't carnival freakshow stuff (GoT, The Station Agent, I Love You Too).

I doubt he will as well but the producers are shooting themselves in the foot by going with someone who has no pedigree.

Get Gerrard Butlerto do it 'I'm gonna chop off yer baaaaaalls and feed em ta ya' ha ha
