It's definite: Jim Carrey is joining the cast of Kick-Ass 2. Plus, we also now know which part of the comic book run it'll be based on...

After some speculation, it has now finally been confirmed that Jim Carrey will indeed be appearing in Kick-Ass 2. Director Jeff Wadlow hinted at the casting, but it's now being confirmed that the deal is definitely a lock.

Furthermore, Kick-Ass creator Mark Millar has shared his thoughts on the casting of Carrey over at his website. “Matthew Vaughn, Jeff Wadlow and I did a conference call with Jim a couple of weeks back and we’ve been itching to talk about this ever since, because the energy Jim’s going to bring to Colonel Stars has me buzzing as much as Nic Cage with Big Daddy.”

He continued: “We didn’t quite know what Jim was going to be doing in the sequel, but the entire team loves him to bits, and I’ve been a fan since I first saw him.”

Carrey is a great piece of casting for the film, and here's hoping his impression will be as great as Cage's in the first Kick-Ass.

Millar also went on to comment about what elements of the comic book run Kick-Ass 2 would take, and what other key roles are yet to be cast: “The movie runs from Hit-Girl #1 to Kick-Ass 2 #7,” he said, “and fans of the comic will know that the part of Uncle Ralphie is still to be announced. He’s the big bad from the Hit-Girl series and you, my friends, are in for a treat.”

Kick-Ass 2 is set for release on 19th July 2013, and we'll bring you more news on the film as it's available.
