Christian Bale on the Justice League movie and Batman

News Simon Brew 2 Jul 2013 - 06:15

He can't make it much clearer: Christian Bale won't be Batman again, and he's not in Justice League...

Until another actor is formally announced in the role, Christian Bale remains the current big screen iteration of Batman, courtesy of his work in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy. That said, it's been made clear many times that Bale has no interest in donning the cape and cowl again, unless Nolan himself is involved, and as a consequence, the actor's Batman days are done.

He's made this perfectly clear again in a new piece at Entertainment Weekly, where he's been asked about more Batman. "We were incredibly fortunate to get to make three. That’s enough. Let’s not get greedy", he said.

Recalling that he and Nolan worked on the films on a one-at-a-time basis, he recalled the point where they were about to embark on the third film, The Dark Knight Rises. "We never really knew if we were going to get to be there", he said of getting to a third movie, "but if that was how it was going to be, this was where it should end as well".

So, to make it utterly plain once more, when asked about the plans for a Justice League movie, Bale said "I have no information, no knowledge about anything. I've literally not had a conversation with a living soul", adding of the role of Batman that "it's a torch that should be handed from one actor to another. So I enjoy looking forward to what someone else will come up with".

Let's hope for someone as good as Kevin Conroy (Batman) and Mark Hamill (Joker). Throw in Paul Dini and Bruce Timm as show runners and we have a masterpiece.

Hamill should be brought in as a coach to guide the guy playing the Joker. Is there any shame in it? In sports, specialist positions have their own coaches, Hamill is the expert at playing the joker, has done it for nearly 20 years! so why not? :)

I hope he answered all the questions in his deep gruff Batman voice.

I like his attitude about passing the Bat Torch. Why didn't Batman ever use a Bat Torch? "Whyyy sooo se-"SLAPFWOOSH!!! "OW! My FACE! It's bleeding FIRE!"

He knows the Justice League movie (if it ever gets made) will not be a patch on The Avengers. I am a huge Dark Knight/Man of Steel fan, but I just want these as stand alone movies. I don't need to see them all in one film. It wont work either as nothing at all was mentioned in the Dark Knight trilogy that pokes at other super hero's?

Man of Steel did it VERY subtly with the Wayne Enterprises logo on the satellite in space. But Marvel did it so much better with their 'recruitment' post credit scenes.

DC have not done this, so they have not been moving towards a Justice League movie at all as far as I can see.

"It's the film no one wants, and not the one we need right now... I'm Batman!"

"Let's not get greedy." So... The Dark Knight Rises wasn't pushed by the studio because they wanted more money?

He made it clear he and Batman were done, professionally.

They can name check Wayne Enterprises as much as they like, I don't believe the Metropolis we saw could exist in the same world as the Gotham we saw in Nolans trilogy. You're right that DC have made no effort to make an expansive universe. How would DC figure Wonder Woman into the miserable, humourless 'real world' of Meh of Steel? A crime fighting prostitute riddled with AIDS armed with a stealth jet and some dominatrix gear?

I'd pay good money to see that film.

"It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me."

STATHAM is Batman.

DOG you have converted me. If Statham is not Batman, then Batman must fight Statham. Bale against Statham? Pools panel say AWAY win.

Statham could have been Bane, He could be Batman. He can be cast in anything.

Bad Guy for The Justice League motion picture?

You got it......STATHAM as himself.

Statham wins, He always wins just like Terrence Stamp's ZOD.

Pretty obvious there was always going to be a third movie.

Bring back Keaton and Nicolson for a true Dark Knight Returns (like the comic book - both old and retired but unable to stay that way)

You'd annoy me in the queue. Purely because I'd want to be ahead of you in said queue.

Which part turned you on? The dominatrix gear or the riddled with AIDS? Or both? Only these films are meant to be 'Y'know, for kids!'

And it's only a stones throw from Barb Wire...

Actually, no.

The only news would be if Bale said he WOULD play Batman again.

He's always been very clear about this.

I have no desire to see the DC characters team up. They sure ain't the Avengers.

Jason Statham is best cast as an altitude-challenged, balding former diver.

That said, he was pretty damn good in the first Expendables movie. Loved him flying that World Wildlife Federation plane into Asta Costa Verde or whatever the frak they called that generic Latin hellhole they hit.

And his relationship with Charisma Carpenter was quite, ah, timeless. Yes, that's it, timeless.

If this ever gets made I want 40% of the profits seeing as it was my bang on comment that started this all off.

Dont make me take you to court youkilledmypine! ;-)

Try as I might I still can't pitch a decent Aquaman story. DC is up a creek. Not even Aquaman likes Aquaman .

F*ck Aquaman.

What, the aids ridden prossie dispenses justice with barb wire!! For god's sake man, direct!
