Guillermo del Toro on Justice League Dark
The Justice League Dark project will be spearheaded by Constantine, Guillermo del Toro reveals. More details here...
The WonderCon convention that was held over the weekend did little at all to dampen the growing buzz surrounding Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim. Not that we want to dampen it: our ticket was sold some time ago, and while it may not be this summer's most lucrative blockbuster when everything's tallied up, it may yet be many peoples' favourite.
The footage that was presented by del Toro at WonderCon certainly went down well. But then so did the panel that the director gave too. One question in particular has pricked plenty of ears up.
It had been known for a while that del Toro was working on a darker Justice League tale for Warner Bros. But he's put some proverbial flesh on the bones when asked about the project. He revealed that the lead character in the film that's likely to be called Justice League Dark is John Constantine (you may remember that Keanu Reeves has already played the role on film), although del Toro's take on the character will be blonde. And other characters we can expect to see are Swamp Thing, The Spectre, Zatanna and The Demon.
The narrative will centre, it seems, around Constantine's recruitment drive. And del Toro explained that "We get to their origin through the story. We don’t make the origin story at the top. We find it out as they each have mysteries to solve. Swamp Thing is at peace with who he is, but Deadman still needs to figure out who shot him. It’s all woven in. When I was a kid, my two favourite characters in the whole DC Universe were Etrigan and Swamp Thing, so I’m in heaven".
del Toro does still have a queue of projects. He's got to get Pacific Rim out into the world firstly, and then he's going to move onto horror project Crimson Peak. After that though, it might just be that Justice League Dark gets the go ahead. We'll be keeping you posted.
