Returning character confirmed for Jurassic World

Director Colin Trevorrow has revealed a surprising returnee for Jurassic Park 4...

Director Colin Trevorrow - the man who helmed the terrific Safety Not Guaranteed - will start shooting Jurassic World shortly, and in a new interview, he's revealed that the fourth Jurassic Park film will see the return of someone from the first.

Dr Henry Wu, as played by B D Wong, was one of the lead scientists working under John Hammond. As Trevorrow notes, "he had a much larger role in the original [Michael Crichton] novel", and we find him now having "spent two decades living in Hammond's shadow, underappreciated".

The new film will dig a bit more into Wu's story, but it's unlikely to see the return of even more familiar faces from the earlier films. "I know a lot of fans want to see the original characters back", Trevorrow told IGN. "But I respect those actors too much to shoehorn them into this story for my own sentimental reasons. Jurassic Park isn’t about the bad luck of three people who keep getting thrown into the same situation. The only reason they’d go back to that island is if the screenwriters contrived a reason for them to go".

Taking the lead this time is Chris Pratt, who headlines the upcoming Guardians Of The Galaxy too. Trevorrow describes Pratt's character in the film as "a classic hero in a very modern context... an expert in a scientific field that's connected to our story".

Jurassic World is due for release on June 12th 2015.

I love his attitude, and wish more filmmakers were like this. The whirligig of returning characters tends to feel incredibly contrived, and gets in the way of telling a new story. It sounds like he's writing a film because he's got a fantastic idea about an island full of dinosaurs, rather than because everyone loved the first one and thought Ian Malcolm was so brilliant.

He WAS brilliant, but... I can always watch the first film for that. Show me something new!

I admire Trevorrow's integrity, but no Goldblum? How can one not be heartbroken? :'(

Sooo disappointing. They only way to get this franchise back on track is to bring back Wayne Knight as a cloned Dennis Nedry.

And then give him the death scene Nedry had in the book, that was brutal.

Life finds a way.

BD Wong got his ass handed to him by Treat Williams in SUBSTITUE II: SCHOOLS OUT.
God I love that film!

Well played, sir. Well played.

I'd watch Newman Park. Crazy Kramer uses DNA to create massive versions of Newman and opens a theme park on a remote island. He invites Seinfeld and co to show off but somehow, the Newmans escape.

Jeff Goldblum and Sam Neill have to return, with Dodgson's BioSyn as the new dinocloning company.

No Goldblum no point, have they learned nothing from JP3 !!! lol

Anyone moaning the lack of Grant or Malcome can shush! You 're the reason we can't have nice things! Exhibit A Jurassic Park /// I was all for grants return as I missed having him in a the Lost World but seriously there is zero reason anyone would out themselves through the chance of being dinosaur food three times.

No, you're the reason we can't have nice things, because you tell other people what they're supposed to think or feel. You can just quit that right now.

JP3 was better than the lost world.

Disappointed. Why no mention of Andrew Scott or Jason Statham in this article?

Henry Wu's last scene in the book is a good one.

No I'm not telling people what to rink and feel. I am telling them they are wrong! I wanted jurassic park movies with Grant and Malcolm and Sattler all back on the island from the first film til a realised I wanted that for the wrong reasons. I wanted to feel the way I felt aged 10 in 1993 and recapture the magic but even the director of Jurassic World is saying to put these characters in the film would be detrimental to the story they want to tell. A new story not an old story told over and over. Did we learn nothing from Edgar Wright when he said people will expect Worlds End to be nostalgic and make them feel warm and fuzzy for the first Cornetto films and probably be shocked when the realise its anti nostalgic. It's time to move forward and tell fresh NEW story's set in the a Jurassic Park universe not drag old characters back to give is the warm fuzzy's then realise oh wait....there no story to tell.

I would have to agree to disagree here, I just couldn't get into JP3

Yay! Count me in on that. Love JP3, much better than The Lost World. Strangely enough The Lost World is the worst of the three with regards to aging visual effects also.

Wow thank god, I was wondering what happened to this forgettable minor character. . .

Meh, fails without a Bob Peck cameo

U know who we need back? Dodgson! DODGSON! DODGSON! I GOT DODGSON HERE!

Spared no expense

He did it not because he should, but because he could.

Finally the Dr Who movie we have been waiting for..oh wait, it's Dr Wu....nevermind.
