It's A Wonderful Life 2 moving ahead
Oh crikey. They're doing a sequel to It's A Wonderful Life. We're not making this up. We wish we were.
Sometimes, we talk on this site about unnecessary sequels, reboots and brand extensions. But surely, we've never covered anything to leave quite the foul taste of this one.
Sitting down? Because plans are afoot for a sequel to Frank Capra's It's A Wonderful Life. Forgive the terminology, but we shit you not.
The project has been started over at Star Partners and Hummingbird Productions, and they're teaming up for It's A Wonderful Life: The Rest Of The Story. Because we've all got to the end of the original and wondered what happens next, clearly. Sigh.
It's at times like this that we think Joe Dante got it bang on the money with the Clamp Cable Network in Gremlins 2.
The new film will focus on the grandson of George Bailey. Said grandson is set to be called - yep - George. Karolyn Grimes, who appeared in the original as Bailey's daughter will be an angel this time, in what sounds like a half-baked re-run of the original. Grimes did say that "the new film will retain the feeling of the original, and it simply must be shared".
This isn't even a straight to DVD effort. The plan is to have the film in cinemas for the end of 2015.
Appreciating we're supposed to be constructive and objective when it comes to reporting projects such as these, may we simply borrow the words of the wise Doctor Emmett Brown: "why?".
Still, it might go on to be an Oscar winning classic, and in two years' time, we're eating our words. For now though, we feel just a little bit sick. What next? Shawshank 2?
