Iron Man 3 to round off a trilogy, says Shane Black
Iron Man 3 director Shane Black has revealed that the new film might just conclude the current Tony Stark story...
There's just under two months to go before we finally get to see Marvel's first post-Avengers movie, as Iron Man 3 is set to head into cinemas. There have been one or two murmurings regarding whether Robert Downey Jr is coming to the end of his tenure in the role. We don't think he is, but the new Iron Man film may at least round out the existing arc for the movies.
Chatting to Premiere magazine in France, Iron Man 3 director Shane Black revealed that "I have the feeling that the story we developed for Iron Man 3 actually concluded a trilogy, whilst leaving the door open for a fourth".
Touching on the issue of how long Downey Jr is likely to go on with the role for, Black revealed that "I had a lot of discussions on this subject: is this the last Iron Man film for Robert? Something tells me that it will not be the case, and that he'll be seen in a fourth or fifth".
Something tells us that Shane Black might well be right there. Expect Robert Downey Jr to head up The Avengers 2 in 2015 as well.
A new trailer for Iron Man 3 is due shortly, and the film is out at the end of April in the UK.

?! So it is the conclusion of the trilogy but we can expect there to be a fourth or fifth movie, briliant thanks for clearing that up!
The questions isn't; is RDJ going to continue to play Tony Stark. It's; Is RDJ going to continue to play Tony Stark in movies?
I would hope they bring Tony's story to some sort of conclusion and don't make any more 'Iron Man' films.
Instead he should be in Avengers 2 and 3 and cameo either as Tony Stark or Iron Man as needed in other Phase 2 and 3 films.
Well, I suppose 3 will be "rounding off a trilogy" in the sense that it will probably bring 'The 10 Rings' thing to a close... they've been lingering in the shadows since the first movie, remember?
Nah, the REAL question here is what on earth is going on with that photo?! Iron Spawn, anyone?
Wait, RDJ and Tony Stark are two different individuals?!
Agreed. You can end a trilogy and continue with a character, though I can't think of a movie that's done it successfully. But as far as comics it happens all the time. You close a small story arc wrapped inside a big one wrapped inside a bigger one. Obviously we always see part 2's close their story while part 3 harkens back to part 1 and gives closure to the first, but this time there's the small matter of Tony's group endeavors, so if he survives this (money would seem to make it a given. Personally I want to see phase 4 and 5. This is our chance to make a million hero movies and hopefully Civil War.
I want Iron girl action figure and vehicle toys.
And I want to see Iron Clam and his undersea adventures, battling rogue Lobsters that want to take over the under sea kingdom with the help of their crab henchmen.....
He'd be silly not to continue it. He basically is Tony Stark. He might as well get paid for it while he's at it.
Rust?
What the heck did I just read?
the way i see it, things could go two ways. the actual iron man films end here but iron man continues to show up in the avengers and in cameos for other marvel films, or the iron man franchise continues but separates into sub-franchises like x-men has done with "x-men: first class" and "the wolverine".
He's being replaced by Ant Man. There can only be 1 super hero with "Man" in his name
Yes it could be a problem. Like the second film , Iron Clam will have to find a way to stop his Iron Clamshell from Rusting....However the Lobsters and Crabs have no such problems, this giving them an unfair advantage.
Iron Clam will need the help of his best friend the Bronze Barnacle in order to defeat the Evil Lobster Empire.....
