Marvel reveals what its upcoming Iron Man 3 is going to be about....

Marvel's phase two of comic book movies begins next April, with the return of Robert Downey Jr in Iron Man 3. The movie is being directed by Shane Black, and we already know that the trailer for it is going to debut online next Wednesday.

What to expect ahead of that? Well, no doubt there’ll be the obligatory trailer for a trailer. Then we should get a poster, too. Before that, though, Marvel and Disney have released the official synopsis for Iron Man 3. Obviously, look away if you don’t want to know the outline of the movie…

“Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?”

Maybe he should, er, just call in The Avengers?

We’ll have a lot more on Iron Man 3 next week…

Um, Inferential spoilers I guess. Ye know looking at this and a statement Paltrow gave that was picked up by ign abou maybe not continuing with the role it's possible to think that Potts might die in this? It'd be a ballsy and confident move.

sounds good

Just another day's work, eh?

Ha, 'tests his mettle'. Like METAL, like his SUIT! HA! *slurps coffee*

Yep, sounds interesting.
Have the weirdest notion Favreau's Happy Hogan is gonna snuff it this time... Dunno why...

I'm probably on my own here, but instead of wasting time and money on their individual stories, can they not just hurry up and get The Avengers 2 out? We have seen how they all came to be, we dont need anymore 'solo' films now surely?

I dont care about Iron Man 3 or Thor 2, or the Captain America Sequel, and I surely dont care about any Hulk film.

But get them all together for Avengers 2, and I am THERE.

But just because the characters have been established in solo movies doesn't mean we're done getting to know them on a personal basis. That's where the standalone films come in.
Captain America is a great example. There's so much more to explore there that Avengers 2 wouldn't (and shouldn't) make room for.

A summary that tells us absolutely nothing. Nice work, Marvel.

So, to summarise:

Good guy is introduced. Bad Guy then appears, causes said Good Guy some degree of trouble. Good Guy fails in his first attempts to beat Bad Guy but eventually learns to accept his weaknesses and utilise his strengths to beat Bad Guy.

Sounds like every film ever made. Including romantic comedies.

Reminds me of Rich Hall's rant about Tom Cruise

That's an interesting direction for the story to follow but I sort of like the comic book story line where Happy Hogan ends up with Pepper Potts could be good for Iron Man. This means that we would have an Iron Man who is alone.

Armor Wars?

A crisis of consonants!

This is something that happens quite often in the comics when writers often want to strip back Iron Man and humble Tony Stark. There is a danger with the Iron Man character that because he is the man who has everything then it sometimes becomes implausible that there is anything that can seriously threaten him because of his resources and intelligence.

Taking all that away from him means you can make him feel vulnerable again because if, for example, something happens to his suit he can't easily fix it anymore,

I think this first happened when Obadiah Stane did it which led into the alcoholism storyline, but obviously that can't happen in the movies so they're using it to introduce Mandarin which is fair enough. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

I thought that was part of the hero's journey?

but he still became the best scrabble player in the world after the love of a good woman saw him through
