One piece of the Iron Man 3 casting jigsaw falls away, as Andy Lau has to turn the movie down…

Filming is underway on next summer’s Iron Man 3, with Robert Downey Jr taking the title role once more, and Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) directing. The rest of the cast is being fleshed out by the likes of Guy Pearce and Sir Ben Kingsley (as well as the returning Gwyneth Paltrow and Jon Favreau). But one reported face who was set to join the film has had to turn the project down.

Andy Lau was set to play a Chinese businessman who is friends with Tony Stark in the movie. However, according to Want China Times (via Latino Review), he’s had to now turn the role down, due to the imminent birth of his first child.

Iron Man 3 (a film that is set to have a Chinese flavour to it) is now hunting for, according to the report, “a male actor over the age of 40 with strong English skills”. Chen Daoming (Hero) and Wu Xiubo are apparent frontrunners to replace Lau.

Exactly this. Ka Fai would be a perfect substitute.

tony leung chiu wai or tony leung ka fai? i think little tony would be perfect for it, and his english is great. i don't know if he'd do it though. he's been really picky about his english language debut. still, it would be great to see. ka fai would bring a totally different energy to it but he's still probably better than andy lau.

chen daoming is a fine actor but i can't really see him in the buddy role.

how about simon yam?

thank F*** for that. I got bored of Lau around 1997. Wow, I had no idea he was gonna be in it. If I didn't read this I'd be none the wiser. WHAT A RELIEF!
