Director found for Insidious: Chapter 3

Writer Leigh Whannell will also direct the forthcoming Insidious: Chapter 3

With James Wan stepping away from the director's chair for the third Insidious movie, having directed the first two before moving onto Fast & Furious 7, there was some speculation as to who would take his place.

Not any more, though. It has been announced that Leigh Whannell will be taking on directing duties for Insidious 3. Whannell wrote the screenplay for the first two Insidious movies, and he's also in charge of the script this time around as well. James Wan will serve as producer.

Neither Rose Byrne or Patrick Wilson are expected back this time, with the plan being to kick things off again with a different set of characters.

Filming on Insidious: Chapter 3 begins on July 7th, and a release is expected in 2015.

Good news. I was a bit apprehensive about someone new stepping in, but I think Whannell will do a good job. He's close to it and seems to really care. Sad to see Byrne and Wilson depart, but it's probably for the best that it doesn't focus on the Lamberts again. I mean, how much more can really happen to them?

And I don't care what anyone says: Insidious is creepy as balls.

Insidious scared the pants off me. Insidious Chapter 2, however, was a ridiculous pantomime that wasn't even remotely frightening.

Certainly Chapter 2 wasn't nearly scary enough. The whole Specs/Tucker subplot was a bit too Scooby Doo, and all the explanation behind the bride in black made her less creepy, but I thought it was rather cleverly woven into the first film.
