Insidious 3 gets the green light
With the success of Insidious: Chapter 2 over the weekend, a third instalment of the franchise has been announced.
Hardly a massive surprise this one, but even with Insidious: Chapter 2 failing to impress critics to the extent that its predecessor did, it still managed to scare up a sizeable audience over the weekend. As such. it's been announced that a third instalment of the franchise has received the green light and that Leigh Whannell will return to write the film.
The statement from Film District CEO Schlessel and eOne president Xavier Marchand reads as follows: "The release of the first Insidious resonated with audiences around the world and quickly became one of the most talked about films in 2011. This weekend moviegoers enjoyed the terrifying continuation of the first film and we are confident that they will be excited to see the third chapter of the Insidious world. There is nobody better suited to bring audiences the next chapter of this haunting story than Leigh who has brilliantly written both Insidious and Insidious 2".
So, will you all tiptoe through the tulips to see a third instalment of the Insidious franchise? Director James Wan is unlikely to. He's reportedly been saying that his time with horror films is over, and that he won't be making Insidious 3. At the very least, expect a new director next time around.
