Insidious Chapter 2 confirmed for August 2013 release

The sequel to Insidious is coming, and both Rose Byrne and Patrick Wilson are returning to star in it, too...

One of the biggest hits of recent times, measured on a budget-to-box office ratio, has been Insidious. Directed by James Wan and written by Leigh Whannell, the 2010 horror was made for just $1.5m, and went on to take nearly $100m at the box office alone.

Immediately after the film's success there was sequel talk, but both Whannell and Wan were reluctant to immediately cash in on the success of the first film. Instead, they've taken their time, and only now has Insidious Chapter 2 been formally announced.

Leigh Whannell is again on writing duties, and James Wan is stepping back behind the camera. Furthermore, the leads from Insidious, Rose Byrne and Patrick Wilson, have both signed on to reprise their roles from the first film, too.

Production begins in January, and the film is set for release in the US on August 30th 2013. We can't imagine that the UK will be too far behind that.

It's interesting: the temptation must have been there to make Insidious an annual event released around Halloween, following in the path of the Saw and Paranormal Activity films. The fact that all concerned have resisted that suggests that there's a real sense of wanting to do this one right.

High hopes for this, especially with the original team behind it. Really enjoyed the first and thought it had some genuinely scary moments.

I suppose I should at least be be semi-interested, as I only enjoyed the first half of this movie.

As soon as they went to the land of the dead, it switched from Horror to fantasy and that completely destroyed it.

sooo agreed :)
