As filming commences on horror sequel Insidious: Chapter 3, a first-look image emerges. Take a look within...

Critical reactions to last year's Insidious: Chapter 3 may have been mixed, but the box office figures give a clear indication of how popular it was: from a budget of just $5m, it made $160m. Profits like that mean a sequel's just around the corner, with director James Wan replaced by screenwriter Leigh Whannell for next May's Insidious: Chapter 3.

There's also a change in the cast: Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne will be replaced by Dermot Mulroney and Stefanie Scott, who'll join returning cast members Lin Shaye, Angus Sampson and Leigh Whannell as the trio of paranormal investigators from the previous two movies. Chapter 3 will take place before the first two films, introducing a new family whose daughter's been possessed by something evil from The Further.

Production's just begun on the film in Los Angeles, and to celebrate, Blumhouse Productions have released a first-look image. Here it is:

The gathering of actors (including Lin Shaye, who appears to be wearing a dressing gown) are, we're guessing, talking about an antique chair. Is the chair haunted? We'll have to wait until next year to find out.

Insidious: Chapter 3 is out in the US on the 29th May 2015, while the UK release has yet to be announced. More on this as we get it.
