DreamWorks pushes How To Train Your Dragon 3 back a year
The third How To Train Your Dragon movie moves from 2016 to 2017, avoiding a clash with Pixar's Finding Dory.
The ambitious plan to follow this year's How To Train Your Dragon 2 with a further follow-up in two years' time has been relaxed slightly. Director Dean DeBlois has been working on the two films side by side, but DreamWorks Animation has now confirmed that it's putting How To Train Your Dragon 3 back from 2016 to 2017.
It was previously set for June 17th 2016, which would have seen it deep in competition with Pixar's Finding Dory (a clash that was potentially not of dissimilar magnitude to Captain America 3 vs Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice). Now, on June 9th 2017, it's going to follow The LEGO Movie 2 by a couple of weeks, and a thus-far unnamed Pixar project is due the week before. This is all based on US dates, incidentally.
The second film has now crossed $600m worldwide, although that's a good deal less than many had been expecting, especially for such an anticipated and well-reviewed sequel. The third film, as you might expect, is set to pick up where the second left off. More on it as we hear it...
