Tina Fey putting together Hocus Pocus 2

UPDATE: Tina Fey's reps have clarified she's working on witch-centric comedy for Disney, but not Hocus Pocus 2....

UPDATE: Whilst Hocus Pocus 2 is still believed to be an active project, it's not the film that Tina Fey has joined. She's working on 'Untitled Witch Project' for Disney, which she will produce and star in. But it's not Hocus Pocus 2.

The ever-popular 90s Disney movie Hocus Pocus is getting a sequel, as was first revealed earlier in the year. And now news reaches us that Tina Fey is getting involved in the project.

Fey's production company, Little Stranger, is getting behind the new film, and the mighty Fey herself will be one of the producers of Hocus Pocus 2. At this stage, it's unclear whether she plans to act in the film as well.

The sequel is set to pick things up many years after the original, which starred Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and the brilliant Kathy Najimy as the Sanderson sisters, a trio of not always pleasant witches. The new film will focus on "a housewife who is related to the Sanderson sisters, who teams up with a witch hunter to save her children after they run afoul of some resurrected witches while out trick-or-treating".

Thus far, no acting talent is attached to Hocus Pocus 2. Earlier in the year, it was revealed that the plan was to recruit lead stars in the vein of "Fey and Melissa McCarthy".

We'll keep you posted.

Tina Fey as a saucy witch? Ding dong - count me in.

I need help reacting to something.

Tiny Fey? Yes. Melissa McCarthy? I think I just did a little sick in my mouth.

Even the words "Witch hunter" makes me despair. The charm of the original came from the idea of normal kids fighting this ancient evil while their parents didn't believe them. Not to mention the idyllic suburban Halloween in Salem setting and great performances from the Sanderson sisters. But now I've got horrible visions of some boring-ass "dark retelling" that looks the same as everything else since Twilight.

If there's going to be a sequel, could we not just have the original cast being re-haunted by the sisters? Or perhaps their children hearing the stories from their folks and repeating the same mistakes?

as long as its not a over written comedy and is a little darker and isnt based on disney ideas then im all in.. too much is watered down needs to be darker and strong storyline imo

I'd love to see Jane Lynch from Glee in this.

Like George RR Martin's wife told the writers of Game of Thrones: Don't f**k it up!

The first one may have been kid stuff. That doesn't mean it wasn't classic. I can get behind this though, as long as it's good why not

Well, the Sanderson sisters where pretty fond of their mother. Lynch in that role would be interesting.

Sounds like you've been infected with the Dark Knight Syndrome.

I watched it when I was a kid. I found it terrifying but I also loved it. I wanted to be cursed as a talking cat and fight evil.

It's the sequel we've all been waiting for

I hope they don't use cheesy child actors. I'd rather see a film with Max's and Allisons son in his mid 20s who's just got back from "finally" finishing University....like he's a bit of a under achiever and the sisters target him when they are resurected to get back at Max and Allison. I think it could be great but if they use that rumored plot it's going to suck. Children should not be main leads, they just aren't as good as child actors from the 80s/90s

Original sisters or no deal!!!! Midler Parker and Najimi MADE that movie...

Mean girls with witches, sounds great

Tell that to the young cast of GoT! :-)

Gritty...must use the word 'gritty' in the pitch...

honestly unless it's a direct sequel with the original three kids and the original three sisters, then im not interested, the supposed plot sucks to high hell and don't even get me started on McCarthy.....
