Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 2 pressing ahead

With over $200m in the bank, a follow-up to Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters is coming...

It may have had its initial release pushed back many months, but Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, starring Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton, has turned into something of a solid hit for Paramount.

The movie, directed by Tommy Wirkola, cost around $50m to make, and has gone on to pull in $205m and counting at the global box office (that's in spite of a US take of a relatively disappointing $55m). Seems, in this case, that a prolonged release date delay hasn't done the film any commercial damage. Quite the opposite, potentially, as opening the movie in off-peak times, in the absence of much competition, appears to have been a wise plan.

As such, Paramount has reportedly indicated that it plans to press ahead with a sequel. Inevitably, it's unclear whether Renner, Arterton or Wirkola will be returning, as this is a project very much in its infancy. As we find out more, we'll let you know...

No... just...

No..

That's great news. I really enjoyed it, was lots of fun, you could tell everyone was having a blast making it, and I just went along for the ride!

Strawberry Fields forever?

Can't even blame America for this. It's the rest of the world's fault.
