IMAX aspect ratios, a new TV spot and a bit of LEGO in our latest Guardians Of The Galaxy round-up...

The attention over the past week or so may have been on Doctor Strange and Ant-Man, but Marvel Studios' next feature film, Guardians Of The Galaxy, is fast incoming. It's due in UK cinemas on July 31st, and we've got one or two bits about the film here.

Firstly, its director, James Gunn, has been talking about the film's IMAX 3D release.

On his Facebook page, Gunn talked about the film's post-production 2D to 3D conversation, arguing that "unlike many directors I've been actively involved with converting every shot to 3D, making sure it works perfectly for the story and the film, making sure it's spectacular and immersive without being silly, distracting or overly showy".

Gunn noted that "Guardians Of The Galaxy has been prepared as a 3D film from its very inception".

But it's his comments on the IMAX work that are perhaps the most interesting. "As an extra benefit for those who see the film in IMAX 3D", he wrote, "we will be changing aspect ratios throughout the film in a way that makes the experience even fuller and more encompassing. I've personally chosen all the places where the changes occur and, again, I love how it's coming along. The changing aspect ratios in this case are actually a part of the storytelling".

Then, some new footage of the film has come to light in a brand new TV spot for the film. You can see that below.

Finally, an assortment of Guardians Of The Galaxy LEGO sets have been launched, as part of LEGO's ongoing collection of Marvel goodies. Three sets are on sale now, including Knowhere Escape Mission and Starblaster Showdown. If LEGO follows its usual approach, expect more Guardians Of The Galaxy stuff in the near future.

I didn't think it was getting released until September, wow an extra surprise.

I really hope this 3D fad dies soon.

Saw The Dark Knight at the IMAX and the altered aspect ratio scenes (completely filling your field of vision in all directions) were very impressive indeed.

Soon our whole lives will be 3d

The hobbit 2 was very nice on IMAX. I'd like to see this on IMAX too but I won't be anywhere near one when it comes out.

I bought a 3D TV and it's amazing......that I don't use it lol I just cant be bothered to wear glasses for so long. Don't get me wrong I do like 3D but until those glasses free 3DTV's come down in price, I have little use for it.

Waiting for this film is actually nearly as excruciating as waiting for new Doctor Who to be screened.Must be a little tough for the actors involved with productions this big as they prepare for press and publicity as the release gets closer because the post production process is so lengthy. It must seem quite distant since their involvement is less immediate because of the scale of it.

Remiss of me not to praise the latest trailer since it was so gorgeous but really what else is new since any Guardians Of The Galaxy trailer is evidently awesome and just very, very exciting?

The day I start caring about the IMAX ratio for Guardians of the Galaxy is the day I pack up and go home. And shoot myself when I 'am' home.

I walk out my door and everything is in 3D, it's like everything is so real :-p

I can't even feel stuff anymore...... I try to touch it.... AND MY HAND GOES RIGHT THROUGH IT! MAKE IT STOOOOP!!!!!!!

How's commenting on things you don't care about working out for you?

(Ok never seen a movie in 3D and not currently planning on it) but super excited for this film! Can't wait eeeeeeeeeeee!

Yes. I'd love to see in in IMAX, but I'm not seeing any more films in 3D.

The 3D had a really bad effect on Captain America 2, for instance. I just find it annoying now.
