The brand new trailer for Godzilla

Trailer Simon Brew 25 Feb 2014 - 18:00

Gareth Edwards' upcoming reboot of Godzilla might just be the blockbuster to keep an eye on in 2014. Here's the second trailer...

It would be fair to say that the first trailer for director Gareth Edwards' reboot of Godzilla went down extraordinarily well. Let's see if the second one, which pulls the covers back a little further, impresses as much.

We've been eagerly awaiting the film since it was announced that Edwards was directing. His low budget feature, Monsters, is a firm favourite here, and seeing what he could do with a broader canvas straight away sold us a ticket. That he then assembled a cast including Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen, Sally Hawkins, Juliette Binoche, Ken Watanabe and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Then that trailer happened.

The film lands in the UK on May 16th. And here's the new trailer...

I would never have guessed that this would be the film I'm most looking forward to this year, but everything I've seen from it has been amazing so far. Can't wait.

Oh good Lord. How many days?

It's so bloody good to hear Bryan Cranston's voice again...

Obviously what happens when you feed a lizard crystal meth. Seriously, looks bloody amazing. Everything I hoped Pacific Rim should have been.

Wow... that one shot of the 1954 nuke tests showing Godzilla's spines in broad daylight is enough to make me want to see this! Just looks *huge* and way, way more faithful to the originals than the 1990's American abomination. Also get the distinct impression that they're hiding a lot of plot stuff here. Planes falling from the sky, f'instance, without a whole lot of obvious damage so maybe EMP related? For that matter in one of those shots was that a British toilet just on the left of shot, looked like a Westminster colour scheme...

Disappointed by the lack of Godzuki, but still looks good

Well, it's got my May sorted:

Week 1 - Amazing Spider Man 2
Week 2 - Neighbors
Week 3 - Godzilla
Week 4 - X-Men: Days of Future Past
Week 5 - A Million Ways to Die in the West

For me, the less I see the better.

80 days.

I hope they aren't going to overplay the government cover up angle. How do you cover up a mile high lizard rampaging through a major metropolitan area exactly?

They could have found a more convincing wig for Mr Cranston,
The film looks very promising, but they will have to have a few new tricks up their sleeve to top cloverfield, pacific rim and the many many other recent films that based around set pieces of mass destruction.

Liking what I see but I hope ally of those effects shots are unfinished.

OMG!! I can't wait!! That's an impressive monster and cast!!

Looks awesome!

Anyone else think Godzilla looks...cute ?

Loving this trailer and if the sound production is as good in the theatre then it will sound as well as look epic

Cool trailer, except for the Inception BWAHM noises at the start.

"All those nuclear tests in the Pacific..." "They were trying to kill it..." Hee hee hee...

It's looking increasingly like Gareth Edwards was the right man for the job. Let's hope it's so.

RODAN. That's who is knocking the planes from the sky. Look at 1:28 in the trailer.

This looks really good.

I couldn't help but think some of them looked a bit cheap

A film trailer without the BWAHM noises? Pah. :P

Or something Rodan-ish...

Fingers crossed that he was. The trailers so far seem to indicate yes, but...well, anxious to just see the damned film already!

Gonna be a busy summer, it seems....

I'm not sure why, but I can't shake the notion that there will be another monster showing up at some point. It's no one thing, just a bunch of tiny things that, when I think about them logically, don't really point that way at all. I still cannot get rid of the idea, though.

Nice catch! Now I'm 3x as excited!

THIS MOVE is what Cloverfield wanted to be. (Clearly the Statue of Liberty shot is is a huge "F.U." to J.J. Abrams and Cloverfield.)

Yeah the shot of the huge wave carrying the military ships was clearly unfinished. Dont worry given the budget I'm sure that stuff will all be sorted...seems like someone told them to rush a trailer out early, there's still enough time though.

It seems like one shot is showing a monster flying into the ocean- You just see its tail submerging. Maybe Rodan, maybe not...looks more like a flying Manta would certainly explain the downed jets.

I love the feeling of dread and atmosphere this trailer gives. I hope the film keeps it up... can't wait!

It's funny because despite the found footage technique I found Cloverfield to be the film that the 1998 Godzilla wished it was. :)

I thought that but on second look it doesn't look like Rodan, I'm thinking something else from earth, also mutated, the little bit you see is more like a Ray - though why that would fly I don't know. Don't think they would introduce aliens, seems like they are going for a more grounded nuclear-induced backstory. Of course I may be quite wrong!

Yes, this movie should be two orders-of-magnitude better than the 1998 Godzilla movie.

Godzilla: "I am the one who smashes!"

The usual story. Gang related...PCP?

Said statue is the half-size one at the New York New York Casino in Las Vegas.

Using the music from the opening segments of 2001 is a very nice touch. This version of Godzilla seems to be about 500 feet tall.

I was looking forward to Godzilla, but that trailer looks like a re-run of Cloverfield. It even has a desecrated Statue of Liberty.

I would recomend you guys tp pay attention on what is happening at 0:16-0:22 those origami birds? A little hint at something, no?

And then at 1:27-1;31 is this giant winged creature flying and diving into water.

And at 2:01-2:03 theres is something that looks like a claw on a wing of pterodactyle

Not to mention that moment 2:07-2:14 that made me poop in my pants

to top pacific rim? how can you top movie where robots have ELBOWROKETS and Main character name is STACKER PENTECOST?

You do realise Bryan Cranston isn't bald in real life?

Heheheheheheheheheh .......................... niiiice.

That isn't the statue of liberty, just the mini one in Las Vegas. Unless Godzilla not only decided to really f-up New York, but also install a roller coaster at the same time.

In the original 'teaser' trailer, which you can't seem to find anymore (the one with the Oppenheimer VO), there was a clear shot of another monster, though it was dead. That monster looked like a sort of centipede/lizard hybrid, and the suggestion is that Godzilla killed it. I think there will be a sort of 'Age of Monsters' theme, with radiation finally driving nature mad and producing all sorts of abominations, with Godzilla simply being the most fearsome of them. Also: as I understand it, the production company only has the rights to Godzilla, so no other Toho monsters will be showing up. Sad - I thought I saw a glimpse of Ghidorah at one point...

to be fair being better than the 1998 Godzilla movie wouldn't take much...

he's a busy creature, demolishing landmarks and installing theme park rides.
Godzilla: putting the fun back into fundamental destruction.

I thought it was! Although from that angle you should be able to see the hotel directly behind... unless Godzilla has already flattened it or something.

Ah interesting....I have to say whatever way they go, the trailer has me proper excited, assuming they tidy up some of that cgi, which does look pretty unfinished in places.

Excepting the fact we actually get to see the monster, and it has Bryan Cranston instead of a bunch of tiresome yuppies, and it isnt fact its pretty much nothing like Cloverfield beyond it being a monster flick.

Look at that, this is what 'Cloverfield' should have been!

What did you have in mind, the truth?

Well, there are only so many ways one can represent a colossal creature attacking an iconic city. And they've all been seen before. Here's hoping this one packs some new punches.

Ha! Fair point. The symbolism in the trailer is similar - that's what I meant.

There's Cap 2, and Guardians of the Galaxy. So yes, a very very busy summer ;)

"there are only so many ways one can represent a colossal creature attacking an iconic city."
The mini T-rex Jurassic Park ripoff being one of them, albeit contemptible.

Stressed as all hell, at that!

"Godzilla Enters the Pacific Rim Breach"... it's only five years away, unless this film is indeed awesome.

Guillermo Del Toro has actually proposed a sequel to these two films featuring the Pacific Rim kaijus and Godzilla.

I think you might be right. It would explain the fighter jets falling from the sky.

Wow. Great trailer. If Cranston's panicked you know it's gonna go off like a frog in a sock. A radioactive 500ft tall mutant frog from the fifties in King Kongs over-sized argyles he keeps for best. I'm ashamed to say they have my cash already.
